Year of the Redhead
Occurring Naturally in Less Than 5 Percent of the Population, Red Hair Is on Fire in Hollywood
Actress, mom of twins Eden and Savannah and natural redhead
"With the red hair, you get the white skin; it's a package deal. The cons are that you never look particularly attractive on the beach. The pros are in a softly lit room, you look pretty. I use as high SPF as I can get, and I live under a hat like a mushroom all the time. Someone said they're worried about their kids getting older and doing drugs, and I got this look of horror on my face and thought, 'What if my girls don't wear hats?' But at 13 months old, they could say 'hat.'"

Definitely Maybe star and natural fiery redhead
"It was great having red hair as a kid because I had something to blame my temper on. Now I go for the same color palette as Conan O'Brien. I did dye it blonde once, but it backfired, as I had nothing to blame my temper on!"
Actress and enhanced strawberry blonde
"I am completely open to dying my hair for a role. Giselle, from Enchanted, had blonde hair for a second. I am happy that Disney agreed with me that I looked much better as a redhead. I do, however, love wigs. There is so much freedom in wigs. When I dyed my hair true red for the first time, I felt as if it was what nature intended. I have been accused of being a bit of a spitfire, so in that way I absolutely live up to the stereotype. The red hair suited my personality. I was a terrible blonde."
Mad Men star and former natural blonde
"I've been red off and on since age 10, when I was obsessed with Anne of Green Gables. My mom said, 'Let's put a rinse on, and you can be Anne for a couple days.' I was thrilled: It was carrot red. In high school I was a Goth girl, so I went from fire engine to purple to black. Recently two of my best friends started calling me Red. It's funny because they've known me for years. I guess I'm convincing enough: With the red hair and some blush, it looks like I've been on the moors in Ireland."

Actress, author and natural redhead
"Nobody likes being different as a kid. In first grade kids called me Freckleface Strawberry—it was a drink mix. It is also the title of my children's book. I dyed my hair blonde for a new movie called Blindness. It was fun for two days; then I started to hate it. I spent all my life wishing for different color hair, but now I felt too weird to enjoy it. The minute the movie wrapped, I changed it back."
Starting Out in the Evening star and natural redhead
"There was something about Lucille Ball being a big part of my childhood; I feel she's the reason I wanted to be an actress. Shirley MacLaine as well. These fierce women of showbiz with red hair—as a kid it was exciting to think I could be one of those redheads."
