Kate Hudson & Owen Wilson

Kate Hudson, 29, and Owen Wilson, 39—Hollywood's most notorious on-again, off-again couple—have called it quits less than two months after rekindling their romance in Miami. The end of their erratic courtship (they began dating in September '06) comes amid erroneous reports that the pair are engaged, which were fueled by photos of Hudson wearing a Tiffany & Co. ring, but the diamond is a prop for Bride Wars, which she's filming in Boston. "It was a pretty bad breakup," says a Wilson pal. "Owen said it was a tough one." Since the split, Hudson and Wilson have each been spotted letting loose. On May 9, Hudson and Bride Wars costar Steve Howey, 30, visited Boston's Liberty Hotel bar, Alibi. And on May 11, Wilson dropped by N.Y.C.'s Upstairs with two women, followed by a visit to Butter the next night, where he chatted up a sexy blonde. Says a Hudson source: "She feels dumb thinking it was so serious."

Britney Spears

It was the perfect Mother's Day: Britney Spears spent more time with sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1, last week than at any time since losing custody of them in January. They spent the whole day together on May 11. Spears later enjoyed dessert at Sur with mom Lynne. As for reports of a thawing between her and ex Kevin Federline, a source says the couple are talking, but "I wouldn't read too much into it." On May 6 an L.A. judge ordered the duo to agree on a private mediator to settle their custody battle or they will have to face a trial in August.

Spears' former right-hand man hasn't spoken to her since late January—and there is still a restraining order against him.

Pal Sims is out of Spears' orbit and is traveling between L.A. and Nashville working on her music career.

After a failed attempt to see Spears in March, the paparazzo has been MIA, aside from a public outing with Kathy Griffin.

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo remain hot and heavy, despite reports claiming the couple, who've been dating since the fall, have split. "It's not true," Simpson's rep Cindi Berger tells Scoop. Over Mother's Day weekend Romo was spotted in Chicago bar-hopping with a group of male friends, while Simpson was in L.A., which fueled talk of a breakup. But, insists a source, "they are really happy."

Angelina Jolie's fondness for inking herself is rubbing off on Brad Pitt. He was spotted May 11 showing off a tattoo—and the mystery mark got people buzzing. Are the disjointed lines and boxes on Pitt's back a map of the levee system in New Orleans, where the couple own a home? A tribute to the Lower Ninth Ward, where Brad is building affordable green housing? Or an obscure architectural thing? Pitt's reps didn't respond, but it adds to Pitt's already impressive array of body art.

Also on his left arm, in French, the Albert Camus phrase, "the absurdities of life."

On his left arm, a sketch, some say, of Otzi, a 5,300-year-old mummy found in the Alps in 1991.

On his belly, this tat—which blogs say is written in Khmer, Cambodia's official language—is supposedly Jolie's birth date.

His Bahamian marriage to Mariah Carey, 39, was hush-hush, but once Nick Cannon, 27, returned stateside, he wasted no time flashing his wedding band. And for good reason: His new wife designed it! Working with Aspen jeweler Joan Boyce, Carey chose a diamond band engraved with the words "love story" and their initials. Cannon is the latest in a long list of famous guys to forgo a band of gold for a bit more bling.

Usher's square-shaped diamond band is from Stuart Moore, complete with princess cut stones.

Becks sports a gold and diamond wedding ring from jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels.

Kobe Bryant's wife helped design the 15-carat sparkler from Santa Monica jeweler Rafinity.

REESE on the RUN!

Just two days after visiting beau Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of his South Carolina flick, Reese Witherspoon, 32, geared up for May 4's Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Washington, D.C. How does she get the energy? The actress talked to Scoop about how she—and kids Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4—stay fit:

How do you make fitness a priority at home?
We keep [TV and video games] down to 30 minutes to an hour a day. Everything else they have to do outside: exercise outside, play outside.

What kinds of outdoor activities?
We run a lot and they like riding bikes and scooters. [Ava] can run for 30 minutes. She's 8; she has tons of energy!

What else do you do to stay fit?
Yoga. You know, weights and stuff like that.

Do you have a personal connection to breast cancer?
My friend Nancy is a breast cancer survivor. I don't know a man, woman or child who hasn't had [it] touch their lives.

Do you nag your mom about mammograms?
My mom is a nurse, so she's pretty good about it. [Even Ava] has cupcake stands outside my house for breast cancer. She raised over $100 last year. It's sweet.

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette's new CD may not be music to Ryan Reynolds' ears. The singer is hinting Flavors of Entanglement, due June 10, deals with the end of her relationship to her ex-fiancé, who just announced his engagement to Scarlett Johansson. "I took a break ... [I hit] rock bottom [due to] a personal unraveling," says the singer, 33, whose angsty breakup anthem "You Oughta Know" was reportedly a jab at Full House's Dave Coulier, another ex. "The record chronicles the rock bottom finally being hit," adds Morissette.

"I was tending to my personal life," says Morissette, who ended her engagement to Reynolds in 2007.

After Idol's beauty-school dropout Brooke White was trimmed, so was her hubby, David Ray. He waited nine months for his haircut.

What would a Hills gathering be without a little drama? On May 12 the cast celebrated the season finale at a sprawling Los Angeles mansion. Noticeably absent? SPENCER and HEIDI—"[It's] not weird to me," chimed LAUREN CONRAD. "I have no control over who comes and who doesn't!"—and LC's new beau, DOUG REINHARDT (sources claim they are dunzo). USHER sprayed champagne on the lively crowd. She-Pratt STEPHANIE was in the house. AUDRINA and LO mingled between takes with Conrad, but WHITNEY only joined when asked to by handlers—hmmm. And what about BRODY? He and FRANKIE were chased by girls with camera phones!

Michael J. Fox hosted his Celebrity Poker Tournament in Los Angeles May 8 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research with Teri Hatcher, Luke Perry and the Scrubs cast. "I'm honored he invited me," said Zach Braff. "He's one of my comedy heroes."

Mario Lopez
The hunky actor dishes about his sweaty workouts, Karina's moves—and whether he's good boyfriend material

That's a hot book cover. You clearly work out a lot.
I try to break a sweat every day, but not so much to look a certain way. I like the way it makes me feel. The way my body looks is a by-product!

When did you become such a fitness fanatic?
I really got into exercise when I was a teenager, dancing, running, wrestling, boxing.

What's your favorite body part?
I have pretty good-size hands, and I like that. They're good for boxing.

Do you have any couch-potato tendencies?
No! I can't go more than two days in a row without doing some kind of activity.

You're starring in A Chorus Line on Broadway. That must be plenty active.
I'm doing eight shows a week. It's a very physically demanding show—and there's no intermission.

Your girlfriend—and former Dancing with the Stars partner—Karina Smirnoff is featured in the book doing dance exercises.
Most guys might not want to take the chance to do it, but it's a great workout. It will complement any sport you're doing. And if you're single, you might meet a great girl!

It worked for you, right?
[Laughs] Yeah.

Speaking of, is it hard being a one-woman man?
I like being with just one person. [But] I wouldn't date me, because I'm always busy, running around and traveling.
