Drew and Justin
Nearly one year after kicking off a steamy courtship while filming He's Just Not That Into You, DREW BARRYMORE, 33, and JUSTIN LONG, 30, have called it quits. The surprising split follows Barrymore's gushing comments in March on The Oprah Winfrey Show: "This relationship is great," she said. "It's healthy, productive and it's supportive ... I found a best friend." And Long chimed in, saying, "[Drew's] the most compassionate person I've ever met." Even Barrymore's friends, who thought the now ex-couple would be the marrying kind, are shocked. Says a pal: "They talked about growing old together, having kids, retiring."
SHE'S DOING 'MUCH BETTER'
Still in treatment for anxiety and depression in Arizona, Heather Locklear, 46, is "getting stronger every week," says a friend of hers. On July 4, she enjoyed her second visit from boyfriend Jack Wagner, 48. "She was so happy to see him again," says the pal. "They relaxed and hung out." According to an observer at the facility, Locklear looks "much better" than she did a week earlier, when she appeared pale and exhausted during lunch with her beau. What accounts for the change? Locklear has been seeing doctors regularly and getting spa treatments ("therapeutic, not pampering," says her friend), riding horses and spending time alone. Says the observer: "She looks bright-eyed, alert and well-rested."
IS BRITNEY BACK WITH ADNAN?
Britney Spears' former paparazzo beau Adnan Ghalib, 35, is back in her life but, contrary to reports, he's not sneaking into her gated community. With in-person pow-wows near impossible (her dad, Jamie, can legally restrict visitors), a source reveals, "Adnan and Britney send each other text messages every day." The source says Spears, 26, who texts complaints about her dad's rules, "can't wait to be on her own."
George's Ex Sarah Larson
ON THE REBOUND
Model Sarah Larson, 29, who split from George Clooney last month, is having no difficulty snagging new male admirers. She was spotted with Brit action hero Jason Statham, 35, on July 1 during a meal with mutual friends at Las Vegas's Simon at Palms Place. "They met at the table and were talking a lot," a source tells Scoop. "She seemed very happy."
DANCE FLOOR FIGHT
Nicole Richie, 26, defended herself from an overeager male at Las Vegas's Wasted Space nightclub July 5 during a concert afterparty for beau Joel Madden's band Good Charlotte. While on the dance floor, Richie's behind was pinched by the club-goer. "Nicole slapped him a few times in the face while yelling at him," says an eyewitness, adding security separated the pair and Madden chased the individual out of the club. Her rep denies Richie got physical.
IS HANCOCK ANTIGAY?
Hancock takes a "cheap, unfunny shot at gay people," the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation is charging. In the film, Will Smith's character looks at various comic-book superhero images but dismisses each character, saying, "Homo. Homo in red. Norwegian homo." GLAAD says "the slur sends a ... message that it's okay to discriminate." A rep for Columbia Pictures, the film's studio, tells Scoop, "We have no comment."
NEW '80S LOOK!
Miley Cyrus's alter ego on Hannah Montana will debut a Material Girl-inspired makeover this fall. "Madonna always reinvents herself, and that's what I want to do," Cyrus, 15, tells Scoop. "This is what a rock star really looks like—and I love it!"
Cyrus channels Madonna's look from her Who's That Girl tour.
Cyrus rocks shades—and lots of attitude—like Madonna in 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan.

Kevin & Cheryl
Who knew? Kevin Connolly, 34, must really like Dancing with the Stars. Last fall the Entourage actor told Howard Stern he was "actively pursuing" Julianne Hough, 19. Now Connolly may have set his sights on Cheryl Burke, 24: The pair were spotted chatting on June 25 at L.A.'s Crown Bar, where "Cheryl reached over and took a sip of his drink," says a source. Then on July 2, after bumping into each other at Crown Bar, a club-goer says the pair "talked for about 10 minutes, before Kevin gave her a kiss on the cheek." Still, Burke tells Scoop, "We're just friends."
THE BIRTHDAY GIRLS!
Lindsay Lohan celebrated with gal-pal Sam Ronson at an '80s prom-themed party July 2 at Teddy's in L.A. Sipping Red Bull (no one saw her touch alcohol), she blew out candles on a Marilyn Monroe cake (she's Lohan's idol) with mom Dina by her side. "Everyone looked like one big happy family," says a guest. The day before, Missy Elliott was thrown a bash at Marquee in N.Y.C.—Diddy and Cassie were there—and her cake listed all her music award wins. Pamela Anderson rang in her big day July 5 at LAX in Las Vegas.
ANTE UP FOR AFRICA
Matt Damon and pal Ben Affleck supported Don Cheadle's charity poker game to raise money for Darfur July 2 in Las Vegas. Affleck busted Damon about his recent weight gain for a role: "The man buys two seats on an airplane!"
7/1, London: Uma Thurman and fiancé Arpad Busson threw an engagement bash with Sting, Elton John and Liz Hurley. 7/4, Malibu: Lauren Conrad, Lo (with new beau Christian Wenger) and Hills pals partied and filmed. Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette had Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong at their BBQ. East Hampton: Ryan Seacrest and Mary-Kate Olsen chilled at the Estate.
The Hancock star dishes about kissing Charlize Theron, superpower envy and his pals the Afflecks
In Hancock you play a publicist who overhauls a superhero's [Will Smith] image. Have you ever needed such a makeover?
I was really, really lucky that during my years of mistake-making, the paparazzi machine was not as strong as it is today, so my image-makeover needs were not severe.
Were you miffed that your character lacks superpowers?
No, because flying in leather harnesses is very overrated—unless it's the weekend, and then of course it can be quite spectacular! But on a movie set, you don't want to be hooked up to metal wires. You want to be in a dressing room or somewhere near the service table.
Was your wife, Amanda, jealous of your kissing scenes with onscreen wife Charlize Theron?
No, Amanda is pretty confident.
You've worked with Jennifer Garner [Juno, This Side of the Truth] and her husband, Ben Affleck [State of Play]. Did either offer advice on the other?
No, they gave me a lot of advice on how to handle [their 2-year-old daughter] Violet. They told me to keep my fingers away from her mouth, because she will bite them off. Violet and I have a sitcom we're starting in the fall: Bringing Up V-Dog.
Has your daughter Francesca, who turns 2 Oct. 28, hung out with Violet?
They have yet to have a playdate. Violet will not return Francesca's call!
