"Elizabeth's perspective, grace and maturity show just what a remarkable young woman she is"
Jennifer Jones

Miracles really do happen. This courageous young woman refused to let a tragic episode ruin her life. Elizabeth is truly a credit to her parents. Her upbringing instilled in her the mental fortitude not only to survive her captivity but to put it behind her and be the person she was meant to be. It warms my heart to see a happy ending, when it could have easily been otherwise. God bless this young woman. I have the highest of hopes for her future.

Elizabeth's words are inspiring. She has set a standard by which we should all live our lives: focus on what is important (family), let destructive anger go, and be able to forgive. How many times have you wanted to show that road map to someone?

Elizabeth Smart teaches us that you can wake up from a nightmare and still live a beautiful life. Her story is a testament to the human spirit.

TATUM O'NEAL
It's too bad that Tatum O'Neal is still battling her demons. The thing I feel encouraged about is that she is honest about the nature of addiction. There are no guarantees, you can never decide that you're totally cured, and your struggle will be day-to-day. I wish her luck.

ED McMAHON
It's hard to believe that after the decades-long career Ed McMahon has had, he can't pay his mortgage. My family struggles every month to make ends meet. The rising interest rates and the cost of food and gas on a teacher's salary make it very difficult. Mr. McMahon should think about cutting back, like the rest of us.

JESSICA MONCRIEFF
Nowadays most people do not want to get involved in helping others. Jessica Moncrieff, a 14-year-old girl, performed CPR and saved a young man's life. She probably did not even hesitate to help Justin McAfee, who suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed during baseball practice. I applaud Jessica for her actions because she is a real hero. We need more people in the world just like her.

RON CLARK
Ron Clark's story brought tears to my eyes. Like him, I grew up in rural North Carolina and consider Ron to be a brilliant role model. At age 18, I'm dreaming of teaching at his academy some day.

ROOSTER McCONAUGHEY
Yee haw! Now that's what I call a fun guy with his "pony keg." I can't wait to watch Matthew's big brother Rooster in the Black Gold reality series. It sounds like a real hoot of a show.

JOURNEY FANS SOUND OFF
Nostalgia is clearly a powerful force. Our readers were emotionally divided over the long-time rock group Journey taking to the road with new lead singer Arnel Pineda, the latest replacement for former frontman Steve Perry, who left the group in 1998. Some were just ecstatic that the band was touring again. Writes Craig Chapman of Indianapolis, Ind.: "How great to see Journey is back with such an exciting new voice. Keep rocking, guys!" Others still can't get over Perry's absence. "Forget the cheap imitations," writes a reader from Pennsylvania. "Steve Perry is the one we want to hear." Agrees Linda Zupan of Pasadena, Calif.: "'Sounds exactly like Steve Perry'? No real Journey fan will accept a substitute." Perhaps, but according to Billboard, sales of Journey's new triple-disc set Revelation have been "nothing short of spectacular."
