"Shania is beautiful, talented and a total sweetheart, but Mutt has thrown all of that away. Foolish man!"
I was saddened to hear about Shania Twain and her husband, Robert "Mutt" Lange, splitting up. I can't believe he allegedly left a stunning woman like Shania for the matronly-looking lady who was supposed to be one of his wife's best friends. Shania's heart will eventually heal. In the long run, she's lucky to be rid of him. He's not a mutt, he's a hound dog.
Shania is a brave and independent woman. I'm sure she will recover from this heartbreak and be better than ever. I can't wait to hear new music from her and see her with a loving, faithful, younger man.

Jane Fonda isn't afraid to "step up to the plate" whether speaking out on controversial issues, sharing painful experiences or assuring women that life is good after 50, 60 and even 70. She has weathered many a storm, yet her message is one of forgiveness, love and hope.
As the wife of a Vietnam veteran, I was very disappointed to see your article on Jane Fonda. During the Vietnam war she met with the Viet Cong. If any celebrity today met with a member of al Qaeda they would be branded a traitor. That should have happened to Jane Fonda.
Port Orange, Fla.
Cunning? Notorious predator? I think those words apply more to the people who irresponsibly overfished the salmon and built the Bonneville Dam with no thought to the environmental impact. Now the salmon have to struggle up the ridiculous fish ladders, thus making them easy pickings for the sea lions. Man's greed, arrogance and shortsightedness have resulted once again in other species paying the price.
Sydney Pollack told stories in a lush, exciting manner. He was a grown-up in a medium often lacking in focus and depth who had respect for his craft, his actors and for his audience. Mr. Pollack will be remembered for his work and his style.
That Kate Hudson sure is resilient, isn't she? It's heartwarming to see how she gives herself a full week before moving on to the next man who is "wonderfully suited" for her.
THE CHAPMANS' LOSS
Readers' hearts went out to Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman and his family after their 5-year-old daughter was inadvertently struck and killed by an SUV, driven by one of her brothers, in the driveway of their Franklin, Tenn., home. Writes Peggy Laubach of Williamsburg, Va.: "I pray that Maria's teenage brother realizes this truly was an accident." Many correspondents hoped the Chapmans' faith would be a source of solace for them. "What a blessing for the Chapmans to know that they will see their little girl again," writes Kathleen Cox of Olive Branch, Miss. Since Maria's death, the family reports that they have received over 60,000 condolence e-mails and cards and that more than $476,000 has been donated to Maria's Miracle Fund set up in her honor. The fund raises money for the family's adoption charity, Shaohannah's Hope (www.shaohannahshope.org), which provides financial assistance for families trying to adopt.
In our June 9 issue, we incorrectly reported that Jake Silbermann as Noah Mayer on As the World Turns recently exchanged daytime TV's first gay kiss with costar Van Hansis. According to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the first gay kiss occurred in 2003, between two females, Bianca and Lena, on All My Children. We regret the error.
