MILEY ON HER OLDER BOYFRIEND: STOP JUDGING ME!
Miley Cyrus, who turns 16 on Nov. 23, is slamming critics who don't approve of her increasingly cozy relationship with 20-year-old model and aspiring singer Justin Gaston. "Everyone started judging us as soon as we started hanging out," Cyrus told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show Oct. 23. "But after my last two years, there have been a lot of things that happened. So I've learned just not to judge anyone, and go into our friendship with an open mind and not really worry about age or anything."
Still, Seacrest expressed concern about the relationship. "I see you walking around with a guy who I think is too old for you," he said. But Cyrus, who claims Gaston is just a "great friend ... a really great Christian guy," says her family's approval of him trumps the naysayers. "He works with my dad, so my dad thinks he's really cool.... Our families are just like, Whatever happens, happens."
DID BENJI CHEAT ON PARIS?
Benji Madden tells Scoop that a report claiming he's been unfaithful to girlfriend-of-nine-months Paris Hilton, 27, is "definitely not true." The Good Charlotte guitarist, whose band will release its next album, Greatest Remixes, Nov. 25, finds such speculation tough. "It's frustrating when you find yourself in a good relationship and people attack it," says Madden, 29. "I wear my feelings on my sleeve. I'm open about how in love I am—Paris and I are very happy."
LINDSAY LOHAN VS. AMERICA FERRERA
HOW IT STARTED
The New York Post reported that Lohan behaved like a diva on the Ugly Betty set, so "America got her kicked off" the show before her guest stint was due to finish.
IS IT OVER?
Everyone's reps are being so nice. Lohan's publicist said she "had a lovely time" while Ferrera's rep said America "was grateful to have had her on the show."
JOY BEHAR VS. ELISABETH HASSELBECK
HOW IT STARTED
Behar doubted Hasselbeck's claim to having once considered voting for Barack Obama, and bitter words flew between The View costars—and political foes.
IS IT OVER?
As fast as you can say buzz and ratings! Behar swears, "We're friendly. The bombastic behavior is all on-camera. It's just like sex. Once it's over, it's over."
WILLIAM SHATNER VS. GEORGE TAKEI
HOW IT STARTED
When asked how he felt about not being invited to Takei's wedding, Shatner criticized Takei (mentioning his "psychosis") on YouTube. Takei's response? "We sent him an invitation."
IS IT OVER?
Shatner says he's still "deeply disappointed." Though he jokes, "But I am expecting a call from [Star Trek director] J.J. Abrams to tell me about the wedding."
DJ AM & Travis Barker
Putting their lives back together after the Sept. 19 plane crash that killed four of their friends, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein and Travis Barker recently returned to their normal routines—conquering demons in the process. Goldstein, 35, resumed deejaying Oct. 21 at Las Vegas's Pure nightclub, where he kicked off the evening with the appropriately titled Jay-Z song "Dirt Off Your Shoulder." On Oct. 23 Goldstein—who told People in October, "I'm not looking forward to traveling"—was spotted boarding a plane at LAX. And that afternoon Barker, 32, had lunch at L.A.'s Marmalade Cafe with daughter Alabama, 2. Says a friend: "When he was in the hospital, all he could think about was seeing his kids."
'I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE'
Cashmere Mafia's Bonnie Somerville endured real-life drama Oct. 18 when she and two friends were attacked and robbed in Hollywood after leaving a bar around 2 a.m. Surrounded by four men who demanded money, actor Burke Stuart, 31, got shot in the back while protecting Somerville and their friend. "We didn't know [the attacker] had a gun; we wouldn't have struggled," says Somerville, who then had the gun turned on her. "My mom's face flashed in my head—I thought I was going to die. We're so lucky."
RETURNS TO WORK
Gossip Girl's Taylor Momsen returned to the set Oct. 24 after being hospitalized in L.A. for three days for a "potentially life-threatening throat infection," according to her doctor. Meanwhile, a friend says that Momsen, 15, has "entered a severe rebellion stage." But another source says she isn't the bad girl she plays on the show, and in a statement the CW network called her a "beloved member of our cast."
JESSICA & JOHN'S AWKWARD RUN-IN
He's back on with Jennifer Aniston, 39, and she's dating Tony Romo, 28. But at the Beverly Hills Hotel's Polo Lounge Oct. 22, scars from the John Mayer-Jessica Simpson relationship re-emerged when he walked by her: "They definitely locked eyes," a source says. "[But] they never interacted." Though Mayer, 31, sat outdoors, while Simpson, 28, lunched inside, she seemed rattled: "Jessica had the 'I cannot believe this is happening' look on her face."
On the heels of rumors he's dating former pageant contestant Nicole Johnson, a source tells Scoop that Michael Phelps, 23, is dating Catherine "Caz" Pal, 26, a waitress at the Palms Casino Resort's Moon nightclub in Las Vegas. On Oct. 20 the pair snuggled at Privé nightclub; two days later they hung at Tao, kissing throughout the night. Says a source: "She's a really sweet girl."
Soleil Moon Frye
'I DO' PART TWO
On Oct. 25 Soleil Moon Frye, 32, and her husband of 10 years, producer Jason Goldberg, 38, renewed their vows at their Hollywood Hills home, surrounded by their daughters Poet, 3 (who said, "I want to get married!" and was then held during the ceremony), and Jagger, 7 months. It was "incredible," recalls Frye, co-owner of L.A.'s eco-friendly children's store the Little Seed. "Besides the days my children were born—and my first wedding—it was the best night of my life."
KIM TURNS 28
A VERY KARDASHIAN B-DAY
Talk about a quick recovery! Kim Kardashian spent her Oct. 21 birthday in a hospital gown while her New Orleans Saints running back beau Reggie Bush was recovering from knee surgery. Just three days later they partied in style at Las Vegas's LAX nightclub. "Reggie surprising me made the night," she gushed.
• 10/22, L.A.: Jennifer Aniston had dinner with Gerard Butler and another pal at Sunset Tower Hotel. There was "chemistry," says an onlooker. Two days later she and John Mayer cuddled at the Luxe Hotel Sunset.
• 10/23, L.A.: Michael Michele and Holly Robinson Peete attended PEOPLE's luncheon celebrating the publication of a new book by Children's Defense Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman.
• 10/25, L.A.: Mary-Kate Olsen got betting help from Mel Brooks at the Breeders' Cup horse races.
5 QUESTIONS FOR ... JUSTIN LONG
The Zack and Miri Make a Porno star, 30, dishes about locking lips with 'Superman' and dating in Hollywood
1 In Zack and Miri Make a Porno, you play a gay porn star, Brandon St. Randy. Was it a tough role?
It was a lot of fun, and I loved improvising. The character is so out there. [Director] Kevin Smith would just let the camera roll after the last line—and for several minutes. He left my kiss with Brandon Routh in there. That was a result of one of those improvising scenes.
2 So what was it like to kiss Brandon, a.k.a. Superman?
I'll never forget the look in his eyes—the fear that overtook his face. I am significantly shorter than him, and I had to be on my tippy toes to get to his lips, and I could see his face just screaming, "Oh, please don't do this!"
3 Do people still stop you and call you the Mac Guy?
When people recognize me, there is never any hint of excitement. They're very casual about it.
4 You've had high-profile relationships [including Drew Barrymore]. What's it like dating in the spotlight?
It's not something I would ever consider a good thing. I still have a hard time handling that people know about my personal life. When you're with somebody and you make the choice to be with them, you take the good with the bad.
5 So are you dating anyone?
I don't know what I am. I'm busy. The one thing that I have learned is that I will be very careful about how I conduct my personal life and how publicly I conduct it.
