Picabo Street: A Skier's Wedding

After Finding Love on An Airplane, the Olympic Gold Medalist Says 'I Do' on a Mountain Top in Alabama

Once again it came down to a mountain and a prize. But this time instead of a red, white and blue uniform, Olympic skier Picabo Street wore a Monique Lhuillier gown—and the gold came in the form of a wedding band. "It felt different than winning a gold medal," says Street, 37, of her Oct. 25 wedding to businessman John Reeser, 31, on Alabama's Prospect Mountain. "It felt softer, less selfish and more tender."

Still, the seasoned pro—who was the Super-G champ at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan—could barely wait for her cue. During the ceremony, "I wanted to kiss him!" she says. After their vows the couple walked down the aisle to the gospel song "Oh Happy Day" together with Street's son Trey, 4, and Reeser's son Eli, 5, from previous relationships. During the reception the newlyweds had their first dance to Billy Currington's "Good Directions."

It was a fitting song for a couple who first met on a plane. "I saw him coming toward me, and he made a gesture like, 'I'm with you,'" says Street of the 2006 encounter. "A part of me fell in love with him at that moment." And that bliss extended to their wedding day. "We felt like a prince and princess," says Street, who arranges ski clinics and works as a motivational speaker. "It was a perfectly beautiful day."
