Stars brought old Hollywood glamour and high fashion to the red carpet at the 81st Academy Awards
The presenter's orchid dress is "probably the most beautiful color you've ever seen," says Portman's makeup artist, Chanel's Jeanine Lobell. Kwiat diamonds complete the look.
"She was very happy, and she felt confident," says the presenter's hairstylist, Matrix's Mark Townsend. The dress, accented with Fred Leighton jewelry, was created especially for the star.

The presenter's gown—accented with H. Stern jewelry and a Jimmy Choo clutch—is from the label's Spring 2009 collection. "She wanted a soft, elegant feel," says Berry's hairstylist, TRESemmé's Mara Roszak.
ELIE SAAB COUTURE
Jolie said her gown—chosen based on a sketch from the designer—was "very comfortable." The Best Actress nominee paired it with 180 carats of emerald jewelry from Lorraine Schwartz and a Lana Marks clutch.
"Angie has always wanted to work with Elie [Saab]. His craftsmanship is amazing, and she just loved the gown."

VINTAGE PIERRE BALMAIN
"She said it magically fell into her lap and it's 60 years old and it fit her perfectly," says Cruz's hairstylist Andy LeCompte of the star's gown. The Best Supporting Actress winner paired it with 101 carats worth of Chopard diamonds.
"There was no inspiration; it was just—get in it!" the nominee says about her intricately pleated gown, which she accessorized with jewels from Van Cleef & Arpels.
GIORGIO ARMANI PRIVE
"It was a war up to the end with three dresses," says Keys' makeup artist, Dior's Ashunta Sheriff. The star selected this gown for the vibrant color, which she highlighted with a sparkly Zufi Alexander clutch and Fred Leighton jewelry.
"I love it because it was a short dress, and [Marchesa designer] Georgina [Chapman] decided to redo it and make it a long one," the star said of her mermaid gown, accented with Cathy Waterman jewels. "I adore it."
SARAH JESSICA PARKER
The presenter, who described the color of her silk tulle gown as "barely mint, maybe seafoam," completed her look with Fred Leighton diamonds.
ATELIER YVES SAINT LAURENT BY STEFANO PILATI
"[The mood] was very mellow," Winslet's hairstylist Renato Campora says of the star's pre-Oscar primping routine. The Best Actress winner set off her asymmetrical gown with Chopard diamonds.
