"Jessica is happy with who she is. Way to go, girl—don't change a thing!"
Connie Perryman

Thank you for your article on Jessica Simpson. She is beautiful, productive and healthy, and that is what's important. Jessica is sending a message I want my teenage daughters to get.

How silly that so many pages were devoted to Jessica Simpson's "weight gain." Doesn't this country have more important things to worry about than the size of a person's rear end?

When someone is too thin, they get put on a magazine cover. When someone gains a little weight, they get put on a magazine cover. When are we going to start accepting people for who they are instead of what they look like?

Well, I guess I'll just have to keep waiting for that cover story about any of the young male celebrities who have gained weight over the years.

OCTUPLET MOM
Having numerous children on the state's dime to gain notoriety is at the very least shameless and, in fact, ought to be illegal.

There are so many families in dire straits because of the current economic climate, and it just makes me sick to think that Nadya Suleman will probably get rich because of the poor choice she made to have these eight additional children.

CLONED PUPPY
Animal shelters are overcrowded with hopeful pups waiting to be adopted, yet the Ottos decide to spend $155,000 to clone their deceased pet yellow Lab? Obviously these are people with more dollars than sense.

NICK CARTER
Backstreet Boy Nick Carter realized he had a problem and took responsibility for himself. It requires a great deal of courage to do what he did, and for that I applaud him.

DR. NEIL SHAW
As an avid animal lover and owner of six strays who never quite made it to veterinarian school, I have often fantasized about the wonderful "free clinic" I would provide if I were a vet. God bless you, Dr. Shaw, and please keep up your good work.

STU RASMUSSEN
Kudos to Silverton, Ore., Mayor Stu Rasmussen for being true to himself and having the courage to be open about being transgendered. Now to celebrate maybe the mayor should book an appearance on the television show What Not to Wear.

EMILY'S GIFT
Since our story ran in December about Ohioan Emily Douglas, 26, and her efforts to help needy kids in Appalachia, she has received hundreds of e-mails and letters, plus more than $11,000 in funding. The nonprofit Americans Helping Americans also responded by donating books, shoes, toys and coats worth a total of $33,500. One reader kindly offered Emily's organization, Grandma's Gifts (grandmasgifts.org), the use of 42 acres of land close to one of the impoverished schools aided by Emily. "The response has been overwhelming," says Emily. "People have been so kind and generous, and now we are able to reach out even further. I feel so lucky."
