SCHOOL VISITS, GROCERY RUNS ...
BRAD'S AT HOME IN THE SUBURBS!
While ANGELINA JOLIE spends long hours on the set of Salt, BRAD PITT continues to embrace his role as Mr. Mom. Most mornings Pitt, 45, has been dropping their kids off at a posh private school in Oyster Bay, N.Y., and he has even stayed in the classroom with 3-year-old SHILOH. "He'll sit in the class and read books to the kids," says a source, who adds that school moms have taken note of the new class dad. "Before, they would drop their kids off in sweats and baseball caps, but now they are in designer jeans with their hair all done up!" Indeed, chimes in local hairstylist Stacey Langer, "I have one client who is a nanny of two children who go to that school. She says she tries to come to the school a little earlier just to get a glimpse of Brad Pitt."
As well as drop-off duty, Pitt sometimes takes sons MADDOX, 7, and PAX, 5, to Dunkin' Donuts, and recently he and Jolie brought ZAHARA, 4, and SHILOH to a Stop & Shop near their home along the tony North Shore of Long Island. "They were just another couple in with their kids," says an employee at another store. Pitt visits Jolie, 33, on the Salt set with the kids whenever possible. (Twins KNOX and VIV, 1 in July, haven't been seen out.)
On weekends it's family time. One local says, "I've seen them walking along the beach. They look like ordinary people—a happy family."
BACK ON HIS FEET
Jamie Lynn Spears's beau Casey Aldridge (dad to Maddie Briann, 11 months) surprised guests at a cousin's May 9 wedding in Brandon, Miss., by attending and serving as best man, just two weeks after flipping his pickup and suffering a head injury. "He seemed lethargic," a source tells Scoop, "but he's doing okay."
NICK CANNON VS. EMINEM
Nick Cannon is taking on Eminem for rapping about his alleged 2001 fling with Cannon's wife, Mariah Carey, on his new track "Bagpipes from Baghdad," during which Eminem says, "Nick Cannon ... I'm not playing/I want her back, you punk." Cannon shot back on his blog, "I don't take that type of nonsense lightly," and he challenged Eminem to meet face-to-face and "deal with this like adults."
Kate & Owen
Kate Hudson, 30, and Owen Wilson, 40—who first began dating in 2006 only to split and rekindle their love several times—are off again. Says a source: "Right now they're taking different paths and some time apart."
THE People POLL
Which "Cop" Would You Want To Be Stopped By?
Victoria Beckham recently donned a police-inspired ensemble, as has Britney Spears and Beyoncé. People.com readers voted for their favorite enforcer.
ASHLEY OLSEN'S DARK SIDE
Bye-bye blonde! Ashley Olsen, 22, donned a dark brown wig for a pictorial in VMAN magazine's summer issue. While Olsen appears serious and sultry, off-camera she says, "I'm definitely a hippie girl."
After weeks, or months, of filming, these cast members let loose for some off-set antics ...
NEW MOON LETS LOOSE!
The close-knit cast of the Twilight sequel New Moon has enjoyed Vancouver's nightlife—their May 8 soiree at Blue Water Cafe was no different. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning (inset), Taylor Lautner and Kellan Lutz (inset) dined on sushi and "enjoyed the relaxing get-together," says a source, but left early after hearing anxious fans awaited them outside.
The Grey's Anatomy gang toasted the end of season 5 with a Hollywood bash at the Kress May 5. The highlight was a gag reel of the actors, writers, cast and crew goofing around the studio. Noticeably absent? Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight—fueling rumors they won't be back next season.
• 5/8, Washington, D.C.: First Lady Michelle Obama and 25 friends ate at Good Stuff Eatery. "She had hardly any makeup and looked like a pretty mom [out] with pals," says an observer. • 5/9, N.Y.C.: Following his SNL hosting gig, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel bowled at Lucky Strike Lanes' Luxe Lounge with Gossip Girl couple Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. • 5/9, L.A.: What split? Cameron Diaz and Paul Sculfor met up at Chateau Marmont. "Paul introduced her to his table of guys while rubbing her back, and she smiled uncontrollably," says a source. • 5/11, N.Y.C.: Jill Hennessy was among the celebs who joined the Waverly Inn's executive chef and co-owner John DeLucie to celebrate the release of his new book, Hunger.
5 Questions for ...
The Night at the Museum actor comes clean about what gets under his skin—and reveals his curious on-again, off-again relationship with Mother Earth
1 What's the worst career move you ever made?
Celebrity boxing. I got into the ring and thought, "Why are you doing this?" It was the most unpleasant, weirdest, stupidest thing I've ever done.
2 What are your pet peeves?
Talking too loud in a restaurant, eating with your mouth open, lateness, inane whistling and rudeness.
3 What's on your "bucket list" of things to do before you die?
Something like starting an animal sanctuary. I'm very interested in the preservation of wildlife.
4 Where do you keep your awards?
They're on a shelf in my study at home in Hampstead [in London]. I had one built.
5 Are you environmentally friendly?
When I directed The Invention of Lying in Boston, they gave me a private jet. I said, "Oh, I won't use it!" Of course I ended up going to New York every weekend. Not very green, so I recycle now to make up for it, and I never let the tap run.
