The 19-Year-Old Star Dishes About Her Favorite Things: Diving, Pickles and "Bad Good Boys"

Hayden Panettiere can't wait to turn 20 next month. "It's hard to have people judge me based on my age," she says. After all, the star of NBC's Heroes and the movie I Love You, Beth Cooper has lived on her own since she was 18. Happily single—she dated costar Milo Ventimiglia, 32, and laughs off reports of anything more than friendship with UK TV host Steve Jones, 32, with whom she yachted last May—she prefers hanging in her L.A. home, watching the History Channel and making pancakes. What else does she love? She told Lisa Ingrassia all.

1 Diving
"I scuba dive and free dive [diving without a tank]. It's incredible. I can dive down 40 ft. It's silent, and you can hear pilot whales talking to you or a humpback whale singing from miles away."

2 "When I have a great book, I love it. I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love. I love fantasy books too"

3 Kings of Leon
What's in her CD player? "Taylor Swift, the soundtrack of Wicked and a bunch of mix CDs. I love the Kings of Leon."

4 I love salty! I love licking the salt off pretzels. And I love Bubbies pickles"

5 "Bad Good Boys"
"I like bad good boys: guys with an edge. My opinion of what makes a bad boy is not someone who is reckless and stupid. I don't need to deal with a player who thinks he's all that."

6 Chanel sunglasses
They were a recent splurge. "I used to be bad about losing sunglasses, but I'm pretty good about it now."

7 "I like to have friends over and sit by the pool playing games. I only play games I'm good at! Scattergories, Catch Phrase and Taboo"
