Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein
Six days after he was found dead in his New York City apartment Aug. 28 of an apparent overdose, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein's life was celebrated by fellow deejays and famous pals including Robert Downey Jr., John Mayer and former fiancée Nicole Richie in a memorial at the Hollywood Palladium, presented in the style of a 12-step recovery program (Goldstein, 36, had been proud of his decade-plus sobriety). Hayley Wood, 22, the model whom Goldstein dated off and on, delivered a moving tribute: "He would whisper in my ear sometimes before we went to sleep, 'Goodnight, my sweet angel.' Most mornings ... he'd make me toast and juice and say, 'Good morning, soulmate.' ... Adam was a remarkable human being."
WHITNEY TELLS ALL
Fans have waited years to hear Whitney Houston sing again—and just as long as to hear her talk about her tumultous life with Bobby Brown. "One day my mother came to my house ... with these sheriffs," Houston tells Oprah Winfrey in a two-part interview that will air Sept. 14 and 15. "She said, 'If you move, Bobby, they're going to take you down.' ... And he stood there, like he was scared. She said, 'Let's go.... I'm not losing you to Satan. I'm not doing this. I want my daughter. I want to see that glow in your eyes. That light in your eyes.'"
Travel via his beloved plane may be one way John Travolta, 55, is coping with the January loss of son Jett. The actor has flown himself to Tahiti, Miami Beach, South Carolina, Mexico and Puerto Rico, relaxing and dining alone. Friends deny his marriage to Kelly Preston is in strife. "He needs to be alone with his thoughts," says one. "She needs to be alone with hers."
ROMO'S NEW ROMANCE?
Dallas Cowboy Tony Romo has reportedly been spotted with a beauty queen, cozying up to former Miss Missouri U.S.A. Candice Crawford—Chace Crawford's little sister! Romo, 29, split with Jessica Simpson in July and has been seen with Candice, a local sports reporter, around Dallas, says a source—though they've kept it low-profile. A pal says Romo definitely "seems to have a type—blonde."
Nick & Vanessa
DATING ON THE SLY
Nick Lachey, 35, and Vanessa Minnillo, 28, who split in June, resurfaced Aug. 26 at the Dime in L.A., where they were seen kissing. A week later they hit McFadden's in N.Y.C. for what looked like "date night," says an onlooker. "They're hanging out, but [it's] not exclusive," adds a pal. "They'll see what happens."
GLORY & GUTS!
Matt Damon gleefully ditched the gym to play an FBI snitch in The Informant! (he called his weight gain "the funnest time I've ever had working"), while his good buddy Ben Affleck got buff for his role in The Town. "He's dedicated," said his trainer, former Celtics strength and conditioning coach Walter Norton Jr.

WHY SHANNON AND I SPLIT UP
As Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Derek Hough gears up for another run at the mirror-ball trophy, he reveals to Scoop why he and his DWTS love Shannon Elizabeth, 36, called it quits in July after a year together. "The relationship wasn't going to go further, because we're just in different places in our lives," says Hough, 24. The couple's split fueled a fury of Internet rumors that Hough is gay. "I've been called gay all my life because I'm a dancer," he explains. "I know what I like, and I love women." For now Hough is staying single and focusing on his work. "No more showmances!"
She's talented and fun—no wonder songstress Katy Perry is one of Hollywood's best buddies. The pop star calls celebs from the Madden brothers to Josh Groban to Miley Cyrus and Hayden Panettiere pals and has playdates a plenty to prove it!

Celebs brought Hollywood glamour to the French seaside for the 35th Deauville American Film Festival Sept. 4-13. Meryl Streep screened her movie Julie & Julia, while Rachel McAdams met up with costar Eric Bana for The Time Traveler's Wife's premiere. The festival, which showcases U.S. cinema, also had Harrison Ford as this year's guest of honor.
• 8/30, Brooklyn: Beyoncé Knowles and hubby Jay-Z took the advice of lil sis Solange Knowles (a fan of the band!) and hit the Grizzly Bear show. • 9/5, Las Vegas: Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott road-tripped with the kids from L.A. in a Volkswagen Routan and when they got there made time for grown-up partying at the Palazzo's Azure pool.
CELEBRITY BOOK CLUBS
