R&B stars Christina Milian, 28, and Terius "The-Dream" Nash, 32, who wed last September, welcomed daughter Violet Feb. 26. This is the first child for Milian and the fourth for Nash, who has three kids with his ex-wife, singer Nivea. • Funnyman Jim Carrey, 48, became a first-time grandfather with the arrival of Jackson Riley, the son of his daughter Jane, 22, a singer, and her husband, rock musician Alex Santana (above with Jane), in L.A. Feb. 26. "This is what 7 lbs. 11 oz. of California dynomite [sic] looks like!" the proud grandpa tweeted about the newborn. • Actor Gary Busey, 65, and actress girlfriend Steffanie Sampson, 40, had their first child together, son Luke, in L.A. Feb. 23. Busey also has son Jake, 38, and daughter Alectra, 16, from previous relationships.
After much speculation about Brittany Murphy's health leading to her death at 32, the L.A. coroner revealed Feb. 25 that the actress (inset) did not abuse drugs or alcohol and was not dangerously thin. The final report states that-while she had "elevated levels" of hydrocodone and drugs from over-the-counter cold medications in her system when she was found unresponsive in her Hollywood Hills home Dec. 20-there was "no history of alcohol or drug abuse.... The body appears well-developed, normally muscular and slim but not excessively thin." • Jenny Sanford, 47, has been granted a divorce from Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, 49, after 20 years of marriage on the grounds of adultery. A judge in Charleston, S.C., granted her petition Feb. 26 (two months after she filed), but the divorce will not become final until mid-March. The governor, who has four sons with Jenny, revealed during a press conference last June that he had an affair with Maria Belen Chapur, whom he admitted visiting in her native Argentina after claiming that he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.
A second child is on the way for Army Wives star Catherine Bell, 41, and her husband, screenwriter Adam Beason, 40. The actress' 6-year-old daughter Gemma "has been asking for a sibling for a long time," she says. "I'll be sure to remind her of that when it's time to change his diapers!"
Actor Seth Green, 36-who voices Chris Griffin on TV's Family Guy-plans to tie the knot with his girlfriend, model-actress Clare Grant, 30, of the MTV series $5 Cover.
A judge ruled March 1 that the alleged abductor of Elizabeth Smart (inset), 22, is mentally competent to stand trial. Brian David Mitchell, 56, is accused of kidnapping Smart from her Salt Lake City home in June 2002. His trial date will be set during a March 26 hearing. "It's a great day," Elizabeth's father, Ed, 54-who was reunited with his daughter in March 2003-told the Deseret News. "Mitchell is going to face the music." The suspect's wife and accomplice, Wanda Barzee, 64, pleaded guilty and will be sentenced May 21.
