Citing irreconcilable differences, Heidi Montag, 23, filed for divorce from Spencer Pratt, 27 (inset), on July 30 in Los Angeles. The reality TV stars, who began dating while filming The Hills, separated on May 25, their one-year anniversary. • On Aug. 2, Charlie Sheen, 44, pleaded guilty in an Aspen court hearing to a misdemeanor assault charge and was sentenced to 30 days in rehab and three months' probation. The case stemmed from an incident on Christmas Day last year, after which Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, 32, told police the Two and a Half Men star pinned her down and threatened her with a knife. In exchange for Sheen's guilty plea, two other charges were dropped. The actor must complete domestic-violence counseling.

AL GORE'S NAME CLEARED
After a four-week investigation, former Vice President Al Gore, 62, was cleared of allegations he groped and assaulted a masseuse during and after a massage in a Portland, Ore., hotel room in 2006. Multnomah County authorities said on July 30 that the case had numerous problems and was not appropriate for criminal prosecution. Among the factors cited were "contradictory evidence, conflicting witness statements, credibility issues, lack of forensic evidence, and denials by Mr. Gore." Officials also said the attorneys for Gore's accuser, Molly Hagerty, 54, were uncooperative and would not reveal whether Hagerty had been paid by a tabloid newspaper for her story.
