Tips & Trends from Star Designers
INVEST IN THE CLASSICS
THE TALK SHOW HOST'S 5 PIECES YOU'LL KEEP FOREVER
1 An antique chest of drawers
"English, Swedish, wood or painted. It's a classic that never goes out of style."
2 Cotton napkins
"I love a crisp, white cloth napkin, and it's better for the environment."
3 A great mirror
"A gilded French mirror is a forever classic."
4 Sterling silver flatware
"I love the idea of using sterling silver every day."
5 A sofa with a clean line and a solid fabric
"It'll mix with modern, vintage and antiques."

HOW TO DECORATE
THE FASHION DESIGNER TURNS HER ATTENTION TO INTERIORS
Go for function as well as fashion.
Your environment should fit your lifestyle. It has to make you feel cozy and happy.
Pick bold rugs.
Rugs tie a room together. If your rug is bold, your furniture can be neutral.
Let nature be your guide.
There are no more beautiful colors than in nature. A garden in black and white would be horrible.
Consider brown as an alternative to black.
I like black in a home. But brown is softer.
Purple can be a neutral.
It can be a great background color.
Don't fill your space with useless tchotchkes.
It will look too cluttered.
Know that a room is never done.
It's where you live. So there's always more!

3 VERTICAL VINES
"More for a cooler climate, this linear pattern works for a window treatment."
4 3D-EFFECT WEAVE
"For a pillow, quilt or drape-this gold one gives great texture. It's terrific."
HGTV's Sandra Rinomato
THE PROPERTY VIRGINS HOST ON THE BIG THINGS HOME BUYERS DEMAND
1. Closet space: "I've seen people walk away from the perfect home because the closet was too small," she says.
2. Granite countertops: "There are so many wonderful products out there, but granite is the buzzword."
3. Move-in-Ready Condition: "Most people don't have the time or cash to renovate, so they just want to plop their furniture down and call it a day."
