"As he battles illness, Michael has the most important thing going for him: the support of a loving family"
How refreshing to read about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary and honoring their lifetime marriage vows: They are standing by each other in sickness and in health.
Incline Village, Nev.
Michael Douglas' upbeat outlook gives hope to all those who are struggling to overcome serious illnesses.
BISHOP JIM SWILLEY
Bishop Jim Swilley's decision to reveal to his Georgia congregation that he is gay was most courageous. People like him give me hope that the fad of bullying young people for being gay, and the subsequent suicides that can result, will someday be a thing of the past.
I want to give sincere thanks to Bishop Swilley for boldly demonstrating that being gay and being religious are not mutually exclusive.
Christina Aguilera begins the process to end her marriage and immediately starts dating again. It seems celebrities often move on to the next person before the ink is dry on the divorce papers. Why not get to know yourself and what you want before jumping into another relationship?
Cedar Park, Texas
Kudos for your tribute to the late Leslie Nielsen. Years ago, while I was working in a hotel kitchen during a celebrity golf tournament, a coworker informed Mr. Nielsen that I was a fan. He not only came back to say hello, he then stuck around long enough to have a real conversation with me. We will all miss this funny, gracious man.
Loretta Lynn's "My Life in Pictures" was a great celebration of her life and 50 years in the music business. Loretta has taught her fans how to face one's challenges with love, strength, grace and honor. Keep singing, Loretta-you are loved!
Martha Orr Miller
San Antonio, Texas
I guess the young 'uns know Warwick Davis from the Harry Potter films, but as an '80s baby, my first thought was of his brilliant work in Ron Howard's 1988 fantasy Willow. His small frame definitely houses an outsize talent.
WAR WIDOW HEROES
Since our story about Taryn Davis and her American Widow Project, which unites military widows, she has heard from more than 30 new war widows. "On Dec. 9," Davis reports, "I was named the L'Oreal Paris National Woman of Worth." The honor came with a $30,000 donation to the project. PEOPLE reader Tatum Mosher, of Chandler, Ariz., was among the many singing her praises: "It is so wonderful to see Taryn and her organization get the respect that she and these other amazing women deserve. They are the unsung heroes of this country."
In our Dec. 27 issue, we misidentified Kimberly Van Der Beek's occupation. She is a business consultant. In our Dec. 20 issue, we stated that actor Scott Caan was raised by his mother. Caan's father, actor James Caan, was actually his primary caregiver for many years. PEOPLE regrets the errors.
