In a revealing interview in February's Harper's Bazaar (which took place two weeks after her split from Ashton Kutcher), the 49-year-old actress addresses body image, abandonment, her greatest insecurities and her favorite guilty pleasure.
ON BEING TOO THIN: "I've had a love hate relationship with my body...[I'm] now experiencing my body as extremely thin...I never imagined someone would be saying to me 'You're too thin and you don't look good.' I find peace when I don't see my body as the enemy...You can't look at yourself in the mirror and tear your body apart. You have to look at it and go, 'Thank you. Thank you for standing by me, for being there no matter what I have put you through.'"
ON REJECTION: "I used to think that what scared me was the idea of being abandoned until someone said to me, 'Only children can be abandoned. Adults can't be abandoned because we have a choice.'"
HER GREATEST FEARS: "What scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm not really loveable, that I'm not worthy of being loved. That there's something fundamentally wrong with me... The fight against gravity for me is to find that love for myself that gives me the courage to reach my fullest potential."
ON BEING AN ALPHA GIRL: "I guess on one hand, but on the other I'm so not. It's more that I have very strong warrior energy. Yeah, I'm a warrior."
HER IDEA OF FREEDOM: "Not reflecting on the past. Not projecting into the future. Not caring more about what other people think than what you think. That's freedom."
GUILTY PLEASURE: "Watching Jersey Shore, because it's such a train wreck. You just can't look away!"
ON HEALING: "Somebody wrote something to me that said, 'Don't let your wounds make you become someone you're not.' That's really powerful."
Year of the Baby?
BABY BUZZ BUILDS AS KATE TURNS 30
With the Duchess of Cambridge celebrating her 30th birthday Jan. 9, Britons are abuzz with speculation that 2012 will hold another milestone: motherhood.
Already, oddsmaker Ladbrokes reports record-breaking betting on the arrival of an heir (or heiress, now that Britain is amending its constitution). "The likelihood of a royal baby is very high," a Ladbrokes spokesman says.
Still, some close to William and Kate say, as with marriage, they're not going to rush. For one thing, Kate-who has already carried out some 34 royal engagements-will have her hands full with newly chosen charities, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and London's Summer Olympics. Not in question: Kate's desire for children. Says royal wedding guest Martin Fidler: "Catherine will make a wonderful mother."
Taking the pulse of celebrity love lives
Olivia Wilde & Jason Sudeikis
First they were spotted together Dec. 10 getting cozy at a Saturday Night Live afterparty, and by Dec. 29 it was home for the holidays! Sudeikis, 36, brought his new lady love, Wilde, 27, home to Kansas, where they were all smiles cheering on his beloved Jayhawks (inset). Three days later the couple were back in New York City and out hand in hand for a New Year's Day stroll.
Erin Brady & Steven Tyler
The American Idol judge, 63, proposed to his longtime girlfriend, accountant Erin Brady, 40, on a Christmas trip to Hawaii. The rocker surprised her with a custom ring with a total of more than six carats by pal Loree Rodkin. "I picked stones and built settings and sent him pictures on his phone," says the jeweler. "He asked for guidance, but the choice was his."
DATE NO. 2!
Kirsten Dunst & Garrett Hedlund
In October Dunst, 29, and the Tron: Legacy star, 27, hit Maroon 5's Halloween bash, and on Dec. 29 they met for lunch at trendy Venice, Calif., eatery Gjelina. "They were laughing," says an onlooker.

TOM & GISELE'S

She's a supermodel; he's a Super Bowl MVP. It makes sense that Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady's new home would be, well, super-sized. The nearly finished mega-manse, whose neighbors include Heidi Klum and Arnold Schwarzenegger, will feature such eco-friendly amenities as solar panels, rainwater recovery, and set-ups for waste reduction and recycling.

JOHNNY'S GIRL LILY-ROSE IN L.A.!
Off from school for the holidays, an all-grown-up-looking Lily-Rose Depp did what lots of 12-year-old girls like to do in their spare time: shop! The oldest child of Johnny Depp, 48, and singer-actress Vanessa Paradis, 39, who splits her time between family homes in L.A. and the south of France, is also a huge Justin Bieber fan. The tween and her friend picked up cosmetics at M.A.C before heading to Abercrombie & Fitch and the Apple store.
