Grey's Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw, 35, announced that she and husband Christopher Gavigan, 37, are expecting a little playmate for daughter Eve Augusta, 15 months, and son Luke Hudson, 4. "It is with profound happiness and sheer delight that ... I can say that another sweet Gavigan baby is on the way!" she tweeted.
After being honored at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Initiative Awards during the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 22, 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan, 43, collapsed and was taken to a Park City, Utah, hospital. Morgan's rep says that the funnyman, who underwent a kidney transplant in 2010 and has diabetes, was suffering "from a combination of exhaustion and altitude." Morgan tweeted the following day that he was headed back to work. "Superman ran into a little kryptonite," he wrote. "The high altitude in Utah shook up this kid from Brooklyn."
Rhythm and blues great Etta James, who is best remembered for her soulful rendition of "At Last," died from complications of leukemia on Jan. 20 in Riverside, Calif. She was 73. The Grammy Award-winning singer cut her first record, Roll with Me Henry, at age 15; Beyoncé, 30-who recorded a version of James's signature hit in 2008-called her passing "a huge loss," and Pink, 32, tweeted that "Your voice and your fight inspired me and many." Dick Tufeld, the voice of the lumbering robot (inset) in TV's 1960s series Lost in Space who warned, "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!" died in L.A. on Jan. 22 at age 85. Tufeld, who started in radio, also did voice work on TV shows, including Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and The Time Tunnel. Lost in Space friend and costar Bill Mumy, 58, wrote on Facebook, "You will be missed bigtime."
Jessica Capshaw isn't the only Grey's Anatomy castmember with baby news. Costar Sarah Drew, 31, and her husband, peter Lanfer, 35, are now the proud parents of Micah Emmanuel. Their 7 lb. 4 oz. son arrived on Jan. 18 in L.A. •The Help actress Bryce Dallas Howard, 30, is going to need some extra help around the house. She and husband Seth Gabel, 30, welcomed their second child, Beatrice Jean, on Jan. 19.
Just 20 days after singer Aretha Franklin, 69, announced that she and William Wilkerson, 64, were to walk down the aisle, the couple admitted in a Jan. 23 statement that "we were moving a little too fast," and called off the wedding.
GABBY GIFFORDS LEAVES CONGRESS
Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 41, who was shot in the head in a January 2011 assassination attempt in Tucson that killed 6 and wounded 12 others, announced in a video message on Jan. 22 that she is stepping down from her seat in the House of Representatives. Giffords has already undergone multiple operations to repair her injuries-including cranial and eye-socket reconstruction-and plans to continue her rehab in order to regain full speech and mobility. She said she is "getting better" but admitted "I have more work to do on my recovery." She also promised she "will return, and we will work together for Arizona and this great country."
