MICHELLE WILLIAMS & JASON SEGEL
'I'VE NEVER SEEN HER HAPPIER'
How did actor Jason Segel, 32, meet Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams, 31? The two were set up by a mutual pal, actress Busy Philipps, 32, who's been friends with Segel since their 1999 series Freaks and Geeks. The couple have bonded on both coasts-grabbing dinner in L.A., where he lives, and at Frankies 457 in her Brooklyn neighborhood, where "they were tucked away, doing their own thing." Next up is the Tribeca Film Festival, where both will premiere films-and their new romance? Says a source in Williams's circle: "I've never seen her happier."
ALEC & HILARIA: ENGAGED!
'SHE'S VERY IMPORTANT TO ME'
Call it an early birthday present to himself. The weekend before he turned 54 on April 3, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin asked girlfriend Hilaria Thomas to marry him. "Yes, it's true," says his rep. "We're all excited for the newly engaged couple." In addition to capturing his heart, the Spanish-born Thomas, 28, a yoga instructor in Manhattan, even inspired Baldwin to adopt a healthier lifestyle. "Sugar was the enemy," says Baldwin, who was prediabetic. "I cut sugar and lost 30 lbs. I feel like a completely different person." The couple, who started dating last summer, have yet to set a wedding date.
Mad Men's Breakout Star
Mad Men season five premiered to record numbers, but it was Jessica Pare, 29, who had everyone humming. Her character Megan's "Zou Bisou Bisou" birthday serenade to husband Don Draper "was definitely a thrill," she told reporters. "I worked with a choreographer ... for three six-hour sessions" to perfect the number. The singing came naturally. "I like to sing in ... the shower, in the car-that's about it." As for kissing, er, working with Jon Hamm, 41? "He's a superbly talented actor," said the French-speaking Montreal native. "And he's, you know, not bad-looking, I guess."
"ZOU BISOU BISOU" SALES BOOST
Gillian Hills made it a hit in the 1960s. Pare's version has been released on iTunes and is selling well. "It's really exciting," she said.
ADELE'S LOVE DIET
SINCE FALLING FOR BOYFRIEND SIMON KONECKI LAST YEAR, THE SLIMMED-DOWN POP STAR IS LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER
The woman behind the world's biggest voice appears to be getting smaller. "She lost weight," says a source who spotted Adele, 23, shopping in London in mid-March. "She looked thin and elegant and so stylish!" Weight-loss expert Jackie Keller, who doesn't work with the Grammy winner, agrees. "Her face and neck are far less full, and her waist is much more slender," she says, comparing photos from February 2011 to some from this year. "I'd say she easily lost 20 to 25 lbs." Adele and her boyfriend Simon Konecki, who turns 38 this month, have reportedly started eating healthier and jogging. (She is said to be getting into Pilates, too.) On March 20, the singer, who has told PEOPLE she likes to cook chili con carne and lasagna, was spotted snacking on tofu pockets with a pal at Food for Friends in Brighton, England. One advantage of Adele's makeover? Designers are rushing to dress her for red carpet events, including Clements Ribeiro, the duo who cite Adele as a "muse" for a new line. "She has pretty much every designer creating one-of-a-kind dresses for her," says stylist Mary Alice Stephenson. "[And] when you're in love, you want to show yourself off because you feel so great!"
THESE CELEB MOMS PRACTICE UNUSUAL-AND SOMETIMES CONTROVERSIAL-METHODS OF CARING FOR THEIR LITTLE ONES
She pre-chews her baby's food!
Silverstone, 35, posted a controversial video of herself on her blog feeding son Bear by chewing food (a practice called "premastication") then passing it into his mouth. "He crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I'm eating," she wrote in the blog.
She breast-feeds her 3-year-old!
Bialik, 36, still nurses son Fred as part of "attachment parenting"-which also includes natural birth and bed sharing. "Nursing is natural and beautiful and wonderful," she wrote on her blog.
She takes placenta pills!
"It was hard to work long days and then go home and not sleep," Jones says of filming Mad Men shortly after giving birth to son Xander, 7 months. For an energy boost, Jones, 34, takes daily capsules made from her dehydrated placenta. "I suggest it to all moms!" she says.
Taking the pulse of celebrity love lives
ANNE VYALITSYNA & ADAM LEVINE
They called it quits after nearly two years. "We still love and respect each other as friends," the swimsuit model, 26, said in a statement of the "amicable" split from Levine, 33. "I wish him all the best."
WILMER VALDERRAMA & MINKA KELLY
"They really like each other," a source says of Valderrama, 32, and Kelly, 31, who cuddled by the shore in Sydney on April 3.
BRAD PITT BOY WONDER
BEFORE HE WAS A FAMOUS FATHER OF SIX, PITT WAS RAISED IN A TIGHT-KNIT FAMILY IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI
Pitt, at South Haven Baptist Church Bible school camp in 1975, was raised in a conservative Christian family.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
The entire Pitt clan (from left): Julie, Doug, Jane, Brad and Bill pose for a church portrait.
Pitt (in the white T-shirt), at a pal's birthday party, was class president in sixth grade. "I got sent to the principal's office more than anyone," he has said.
PLAYING THE FIELD
Before Moneyball, Pitt (in 1977) dabbled in Springfield Little League.
READY FOR STARDOM
Pitt said of leaving Missouri for L.A. at 22: "I had it very good. I [just] wanted more. I hadn't been on an airplane until I was 25."
