Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Diamond, 71, married his manager, Katie McNeil, 42, on April 21 in front of family and close friends in L.A. "It was magical," tweeted the crooner of his third walk down the aisle and the first for his bride, who have been engaged since last September. The crooner of such hits including "Sweet Caroline" and "Cracklin' Rosie" kicks off his U.S. summer tour on June 1 in Fort Lauderdale. The Great Gatsby actress Carey Mulligan, 26, and Marcus Mumford, 25, the frontman of the Grammy-nominated folk band Mumford & Sons, both said "I do" on April 21 in front of 200 family and friends, including Sienna Miller, Jake Gyllenhaal and Colin Firth, on a farm in Somerset, England. The couple, who were married by Mumford's father, who is a vicar, were childhood pen pals while growing up in London.
Thomas Beatie (inset), 38, best known for being the "Pregnant Man," announced on The Doctors in an episode airing May 7 that he and his wife of nine years, Nancy, 49, have separated. In 2007 Beatie shot to fame as a female-to-male transgender who preserved his female reproductive organs so he could give birth, with the help of a donor and artificial insemination, to his and Nancy's three children: daughter Susan, 3, and sons Austin, 2, and Jensen, 21 months. Beatie also confirmed that he recently completed the final surgery of his female-to-male gender reassignment.
Singer Robin Gibb, 62, has awakened from a coma that lasted over a week after contracting pneumonia during his battle with colon and liver cancer. Gibb is now fully conscious, lucid and able to speak to his loved ones, his doctors said in an April 22 statement. His family, including his wife, Dwina, 58, and big brother Barry, 65, played music and sang to him. "It is a testament to Robin's extraordinary courage ... that he has overcome quite incredible odds to get where he is now."
George Zimmerman, 28, the neighborhood-watch volunteer charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting unarmed Trayvon Martin, 17, on Feb. 26, posted $150,000 bail April 20. Two days later he was fit with a GPS tracking device and released from a Sanford, Fla., jail, from which he was whisked away in a waiting BMW. At the bail hearing, Zimmerman, whose location is presently unknown, apologized to the slain teen's family, including his mother, Sybrina Fulton, and his father, Tracy Martin, for their loss.
'THERE'S NOTHING SHE CAN'T DO'
Seven-year-old Annie Clark beat the odds by winning a penmanship award in West Mifflin, Pa. Born without hands, she became the first recipient of the Nicholas Maxim Award, a prize from educational publisher Zaner-Bloser, which recognizes exceptional handwriting of disabled students. "I think about doing words and spelling," she told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I have learned to go slow," says Annie, who won $1,000 and one day hopes to pen books about animals. "She is just determined that there's nothing she can't do," her dad, Tom Clark, who adopted her from China, told the paper.
