Just one day before she was set to give birth, Jessica Simpson still had plenty to do. The Fashion Star mentor and her fiance, Eric Johnson, packed a bag for the hospital that included Simpson's favorite blankets, a vintage record player and a few must-have albums (Bob Marley was on their playlist!). And as friends and family-including Johnson's parents, who flew in from Boston for their granddaughter's debut-stopped by the couple's L.A. home to wish the parents-to-be good luck, "Jessica was very excited," says a source. "She was ready to have her baby. She kept saying, 'I can't believe I get to hold her tomorrow!'"

On May 1 Simpson, 31, was finally able to cradle her newborn daughter Maxwell Drew, who has dark hair and weighed in at 9 lbs. 13 oz.-just 1 oz. more than Johnson, 32, weighed at birth. "We are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received," Simpson said on her website. "This has been the greatest experience of our lives!"

Maxwell is the first child for the couple, who got engaged in 2010 but held off on wedding planning to focus on getting ready for their little girl. To that end, Simpson has decked out her lavender nursery with "vintage butterfly wallpaper, a lot of lace and dream catchers," she says. "I'm in heaven." Especially now that she's a mom: "Creating a family is the best thing I have ever done."

What's in a Name?
Simpson (with mom Tina) said she and Johnson chose "a very sentimental" name for their baby. Maxwell is Johnson's middle name and his mother's maiden name, while Drew is Simpson's mother's maiden name. Adds the new mom: "It was the first name we came up with, and it's the cutest name ever!"
