PATH OF DESTRUCTION A neighborhood is aflame near the foothills of Colorado Springs. Soaring temperatures and arid conditions fueled the blaze that started in Waldo Canyon, one of the most destructive wildfires in Colorado history. "It was like a movie scene," Denver Fire Department Lt. Mike Somma told CBS June 27. Still undetermined: what caused the fire.

SMOKE FOR MILES

As billowing clouds fill the skies west of Fort Collins June 12, a father gingerly lifts his son over barbed wire. Earlier in June, Fort Collins-area residents endured the High Park fire, which began June 9, firefighters now believe, with a lightning strike and destroyed more than 87,000 acres and 250 homes.

PREPARED FOR THE WORST

Christina Morris watches the flames from the back of her car in the parking lot of Colorado Spring's Coronado High School June 24. Though not yet evacuated, Morris had stocked her car with supplies.
