BABY
It's a girl for actress Uma Thurman, 42, and her boyfriend, financier Arpad Busson, 49, who welcomed their first child together on July 15. They each have children from previous relationships: Thurman has daughter Maya, 14, and son Levon, 10, with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, 41, and Busson has two sons, Flynn, 14, and Aurelius, 9, with ex-girlfriend Elle Macpherson, 48.
UNCOUPLED
On July 16 a Los Angeles judge finalized the divorce of singer Katy Perry, 27, and British funnyman Russell Brand, 37. The couple, who have no children together and reportedly had no prenup, were married for 14 months before Brand filed for divorce from the pop star on Dec. 30, citing "irreconcilable differences."
ANNOUNCEMENT
Kelsey Grammer (inset), 57, and his wife, Kayte, 31, announced July 13 that they are "thrilled" about the birth of their first child together, daughter Faith Evangeline Elisa. The birth is bittersweet for the couple, who expected twins until they lost Faith's twin brother earlier in the year. "A glorious birth with a lingering sadness is ours today," the couple said in a statement.
TROUBLE
On July 15, three days after signing with the New York Knicks, point guard Jason Kidd, 39, was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole in the Hamptons. The future Hall of Famer, who was treated for minor injuries and released, has pleaded not guilty. Kerry Kennedy, 52, daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy and ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was charged with driving while impaired after sideswiping another vehicle and leaving the scene on a Westchester County, N.Y., highway July 13. A Kennedy rep counters the charges, saying she "voluntarily took Breathalyzer, blood and urine tests-all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system." Kennedy reportedly told police that she might have taken the sleep aid Ambien before getting behind the wheel but could not remember clearly. Kennedy was scheduled to appear in court July 17.
DEATH
Country music pioneer Kitty Wells, 92, died July 16 from complications following a stroke. Wells's 1955 hit "Making Believe" was featured on the 1988 movie soundtrack of Mississippi Burning, and she placed 81 records on the Billboard Country Charts between 1952 and 1979.
STAR OF STAGE AND SCREEN DIES
Oscar-winning actress Celeste Holm, 95, who soared to fame in Broadway's landmark musical Oklahoma! in 1943 and was named Best Supporting Actress in 1947's Gentleman's Agreement opposite Gregory Peck, died July 15 in New York City of a heart attack resulting from severe dehydration.
