'BABY BELUGA' DIES Kavna, the beluga whale that was an inspiration for the beloved children's song "Baby Beluga" by Raffi Cavoukian, died Aug. 6, likely from cancer, at the Vancouver Aquarium. Kavna, about 46, was one of the oldest beluga whales in captivity. When musician Raffi first met Kavna in 1979, it was love at first sight. "[Kavna] came out of the water and placed a gentle, graceful kiss on my cheek, and I couldn't stop talking about it for weeks," he told a Canadian radio station. Raffi soon wrote what would become a hit song about an imaginary whale that swims wild and free in the ocean. The song was also featured on the ABC sitcom Full House as Michelle Tanner's (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) favorite song.
