AVRIL & CHAD
THEY'RE ENGAGED!
There's nothing complicated about it: Six months after meeting to collaborate on music, Avril Lavigne and Nickelback singer-guitarist Chad Kroeger are planning to wed! The Canadian rockers' under-the-radar relationship (who even knew they were dating?) began in February when Kroeger, 37, joined Lavigne, 27, in the studio to cowrite a song for her upcoming album. "A romantic relationship blossomed as they spent time writing together," a Lavigne pal tells Scoop. Kroeger proposed on Aug. 8 at L.A.'s Henson studios, presenting Lavigne with a diamond sparkler featuring a pear-shaped center stone flanked by two half-moon diamonds. It will be the first trip down the aisle for Kroeger and the second for Lavigne, who split from Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley in 2009. "They have the same values," says a family source. "They are so happy. She's glowing!"
CARLY RAE JEPSEN
CALL HER ... TAKEN!
The singer behind summer's inescapable hit "Call Me Maybe" isn't giving her number out these days: Carly Rae Jepsen, 26, is dating musician Matthew Koma. While working on her U.S. debut album, Kiss, due in September, "they clicked creatively and started spending more time together," says a source, noting that Jepsen ended her relationship with architecture student Jordi Ashworth earlier this summer. Koma, 25, also broke things off with his longtime girlfriend and Gloriana singer Rachel Reinert, 23, in late July. By August, says an observer who recently saw Koma and Jepsen in New York City, "he was introducing her as his girlfriend."
JACKIE REDUX
MINKA KELLY IS THE LATEST ACTRESS TO PORTRAY THE FAMOUS FIRST LADY. WHILE MANY HAVE TRIED, HAS ANYONE TRULY CAPTURED HER?
It takes more than dark sunglasses and a slim shift to bring Jackie Kennedy to life. So says Secret Service agent Clint Hill, author of Mrs. Kennedy and Me, who spent four years with the former First Lady. Of these actresses who've played Jackie in TV movies, "I don't find anybody yet who really personifies who she was," says Hill, 80, who adds that some of the wardrobe choices weren't spot-on either. Most of all, "She was intelligent and she had a wonderful sense of humor. I think some of these actresses missed that part of her," he says. "She was in a class by herself. Of course I'm very prejudiced."
