Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell are now husband and wife. The True Blood actress, 25, and the Billy Elliot star, 26, tied the knot on Oct. 30. The bride wore a custom Carolina Herrera dress. "Words cannot describe the happiness I am feeling," she tweeted a day after the wedding. "Overwhelming." The two met in 2005 when they shot the Green Day video "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Olympic gold medalist Carly Patterson, 24, wed her boyfriend, business consultant Mark Caldwell, 27, in Dallas on Nov. 3. Patterson, the 2004 women's all-around gymnastics champion, told PEOPLE, "I feel so lucky and fortunate that I get to spend forever with my best friend and the love of my life." The couple met more than three years ago and got engaged in January.
BABY ON BOARD
Looks like House of Lies actress Kristen Bell and fiance Dax Shepard are going to have some sleepless nights. The two are expecting their first child in late spring, their rep told PEOPLE on Nov. 5. "They're both ecstatic," said a friend of the couple. "They can't wait to become parents." Bell, 32, and Shepard, 37, started dating in 2007 and have been engaged for nearly three years. Former 7th Heaven actress Beverley Mitchell (inset), 31, is going to be a first-time mom. She and her husband, accountant Michael Cameron, 32, will be welcoming a baby in April. The two have been married since 2008. The mother-to-be said she is "excited to fall in love with life again and reinvent myself in a way that I can't even imagine."
Yoselyn Ortega, the New York City nanny accused of killing two children she was caring for on Oct. 25, was charged with first- and second-degree murder on Nov. 3. Ortega, 50, allegedly stabbed the children, Lucia Krim, 6, and her brother, Leo, 2, with a kitchen knife shortly before their mother, Marina Krim, returned from a swimming lesson with her 3-year-old daughter.
Songwriter Bill Dees, who cowrote the 1964 hit "Oh, Pretty Woman" with singer Roy Orbison, died in Mountain Home, Ark., on Oct. 24. He was 73. Dees and Orbison's song was featured in 1990's Pretty Woman starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, and helped inspire the film's title. Teri Shields, mother and onetime manager of Brooke Shields, died Oct. 31 in Manhattan at 79, after a long illness related to dementia. Shields launched her daughter's career at 11 months. Brooke fired her in 1995, but they remained united. Brooke once said: "It was us against everybody."
SHARON OSBOURNE HAS DOUBLE MASTECTOMY
The cohost of The Talk revealed Nov. 4 she had a preventive double mastectomy earlier this year after learning she carried a gene that increases the risk of breast cancer. "For me, it wasn't a big decision, it was a no-brainer," Osbourne, 60, told Britain's Hello! magazine. "I didn't want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me." Added Osbourne, who survived colon cancer in 2002 and whose son Jack was diagnosed in May with multiple sclerosis: "It's not 'pity me.' It's a decision I made that's got rid of this weight that I was carrying around."
