Star Wars creator George Lucas, 68, is set to wed DreamWorks animation chairman Mellody Hobson, 43, a rep announced on Jan. 3. The pair have been dating since 2006. This will be Lucas's second marriage and the first for Hobson. The director was previously married to film editor Marcia Lou Griffin. The exes adopted a daughter, Amanda, 31, before their 1983 divorce, and Lucas went on to adopt Katie, 24, and Jett, 19, after their split.

MARRIED

Marie Osmond's daughter Rachael Blosil, 23, tied the knot with boyfriend, fashion designer Gabriel Krueger, 22, during an intimate Christmas Day ceremony in a Park City, Utah, cabin with her family looking on. "I have never seen Rachael look happier," Osmond, 53, told PEOPLE. "We welcomed Gabriel with open arms into our loving family." The couple met more than a year ago and got engaged on Dec. 15.

EXPECTING

American Idol season 8 winner Kris Allen (inset), 27, is going to be a first-time dad. The musician revealed the news on Jan. 1 after he and his wife, Katy, and pet dog Zorro were involved in a car accident. Allen tweeted, "Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I'm having a lil baby." The two have been married since 2008.

LEGAL MATTERS

Two years after a conviction in the 2001 murder of Washington, D.C., intern Chandra Levy, 24, who had been romantically linked to then-congressman Gary Condit of California, the outcome of the trial could be called into question. Prosecutors and defense attorneys met on Dec. 18 and again on Jan. 4 to discuss whether new information could undermine the prosecution's key witness in the trial of illegal Salvadoran immigrant Ingmar Guandique, who was found guilty of killing Levy in a D.C. park.

CITIZENSHIP

French actor Gerard Depardieu, 64, is now a Russian citizen. The Green Card star accepted Russian citizenship as part of his protest against a proposed 75 percent tax on French residents earning more than 1 million euros annually. Russia has a flat 13 percent tax rate. President Vladimir Putin approved his application, and the Oscar-nominated star received his new passport on Jan 6.

DEATHS

Grammy winner Patti Page, one of the most successful pop stars of the 1950s, with chart-toppers such as "Tennessee Waltz" and "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" died on Jan. 1. in Encinitas, Calif. She was 85.

MISSONI FASHION MOGUL MISSING

A small plane carrying Italian fashion executive Vittorio Missoni, the head of his family's luxury label Missoni, and five others including his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni (left), disappeared Jan. 4 after it took off from the island resort of Los Roques off the coast of Venezuela. No traces of the missing vacationers or their aircraft have turned up. Vittorio, 58, is credited with turning his father's fashion house into a global empire and a favorite among fashionistas such as Kate Middleton. "We are full of hope, and trust the great work the authorities have been doing so far," said Vittorio's sister Angela Missoni. "We will not give up."
