BRITNEY & JASON SPLIT
WILL SHE BE OKAY ?
The new year has already been full of change for Britney Spears. She's left her gig as judge on The X Factor, her new puppy Hannah is gravely ill, and on Jan. 11 she announced she and fiance Jason Trawick, 41, have called it quits after more than three years together. While Spears, 31, told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement, "I'll always adore him, and we will remain great friends," a family source says the singer is "definitely upset about the split." What tore the couple apart? Spears, who has two sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline, had hoped to start a family soon with Trawick, but he wasn't ready. Says the close source: "There were so many issues he wanted worked out before that"-including her neediness. "It was difficult for Jason to have his own life." Adds an insider: "Britney is very insecure and has had a lot of trouble with jealousy."
Those insecurities may be heightened now. "[She] is very worried about being alone," says the family source. "She is upset, but for a long time she has treated him like a friend, not a romantic partner." The family source adds that some close to the singer, who had a breakdown in 2008, "are concerned about her future." A friend of the former couple's counters, "She'll be fine. She has a good support system in place. She's surrounded by family and friends who love her." That includes her mother, Lynne, 57, and her father, Jamie, 60, who is now the sole conservator over her person; Trawick resigned from his role as co-conservator on Jan. 11. As for who will take over Trawick's role as near-constant companion, her father is working on finding a solution. According to the close source, "She has her ups and downs but overall is doing well, [although] the split is, of course, hard."
Though Trawick moved out of their Thousand Oaks, Calif., home after the holidays, sources say he'll remain a father figure to Preston, 7, and Jayden, 6. "[He] adores those kids; he loves them," says the close source. "He's not just going to walk away from their lives."
The pop star, meanwhile, is putting on a brave face post-split: She was seen Jan. 14 getting coffee in L.A. and "seemed okay and smiled a bit," says an eyewitness. She won't have much time for self-pity: She is recording a new album and is in talks to do a residency in Las Vegas. Those who know her say she's at her best when she's busy. "She has a lot to be excited about and thankful for," says the close source. "Life goes on."
FIT & FLIRTY!
After a tumultuous 2012, Demi Moore is back in action. The actress, 50, recently spent two weeks at Bikini Bootcamp in Tulum, Mexico, where she indulged in yoga, cleansing rituals and fresh juices. "Demi wanted to reconnect with herself," says Bootcamp owner Melissa Perlman. "She was processing a lot." A tabloid report of a fling in Mexico is untrue, but she is dating stateside. A source says she's been "casually" seeing restaurateur Harry Morton, 31, for a few months: "She's into him." And perhaps finally letting go of Ashton Kutcher, 34, who filed for divorce on Dec. 21. "She's feeling positive," says Perlman, "and ready to move forward."
