TIGER WOODS & LINDSEY VONN

WHY IT WORKS

As an Olympian, Lindsey Vonn, 28, is no stranger to cheering crowds. But on June 14 she was the one watching from the sidelines as her boyfriend Tiger Woods, 37, competed in the U.S. Open. "She seemed very laid-back, very friendly," says an onlooker. "No one approached or recognized her." The moment of privacy was rare for Vonn, who has faced scrutiny as Woods's first romantic partner since his sex scandal and divorce from Elin Nordegren in 2010. "I see what people say about me," Vonn said in a recent New York Times interview. "But I don't care. I'm happy." While she expressed frustration that some have reduced her to being "just Tiger's girlfriend," the gold medalist revealed their experiences as athletes strengthen their bond: "The Olympics were the most pressure I've ever felt. Tiger lives that pressure every day. So I can talk to him about that."

The couple - who went public with their relationship in March - also connect over Vonn's ongoing rehabilitation of her right knee. Woods, who had Vonn flown home from Austria on his private jet after she was injured at the Alpine World Championships in February, underwent a similar ACL surgery in 2008. "He knows what I'm going through," she told the Times. And while tabloids will continue to churn out reasons why their romance is destined for disaster, Vonn remains at ease. "Things are great," she said. "I learned a while ago from my divorce [from husband Thomas Vonn in 2011] that my happiness is the most important thing."

TISH & BILLY RAY CYRUS' DIVORCE

HOW MILEY IS COPING

Stopping for a meal at the trendy Paris Club in Chicago on June 14, Miley Cyrus, 20, appeared to "be in a really good mood and having a great time," says a fellow diner. But just a day before, her parents had announced for the second time in three years that they were splitting - Billy Ray, 51, filed for divorce in 2010, only to reconcile with Tish, 46, five months later—and the singer admitted to being worried about how the divorce will affect her younger sister Noah. "I'm fine," Cyrus said off-air while promoting her new single at Chicago's B96, according to the radio station's deejay Showbiz Shelly. "Honestly ... I'm much more concerned for my sister. She's 13." (Noah earlier tweeted a heartfelt plea: "please pray for me and my family.") While her father remained at his home in Tennessee, Cyrus stuck close to her mom and Noah in the Windy City, and Tish seemed to appreciate her daughters' support: She posted a photo on Twitter of the three of them and the words "My girls are so amazing."

ATTACKED BY HER HUSBAND

Fans of celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, 53, were shocked when a British paper published photos of what appears to be a violent argument with her husband, Charles Saatchi, 70, at a London restaurant. An onlooker says Saatchi had "his hand on her throat and she looked scared." Though Saatchi told the London Evening Standard that it was just a "playful tiff," Lawson "looked like a broken woman" when they left in a taxi together, says the onlooker. "She was in a flood of tears." On June 17 Saatchi accepted a warning by police.
