Though her heart is still broken, Lea Michele is starting to pick up the pieces of her life. On Aug. 3 she attended actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler's baby shower - her first public outing since the shocking death of her boyfriend and Glee costar Cory Monteith last month. Looking radiant in a white lace dress, the actress put on a brave smile and headed into the Thompson hotel in Beverly Hills arm-in-arm with pal JoAnna Garcia Swisher. "She genuinely looked like she was having a nice day with friends," says an onlooker.
Just a week before, Michele, 26, and Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy gathered the cast and crew for a memorial honoring Monteith, who died at 31 from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol. During the somber event, held on one of the show's sets, "Lea could be heard sobbing uncontrollably," says a source.
Surrounded by her Glee family, Michele is finding some comfort in the routine of work. "At my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for season 5! I've missed her so much," she tweeted on Aug. 1. Four days later she was in the studio recording songs for the show while her castmates were back on the set. In coming weeks they'll tackle what will doubtless be an emotional tribute to Monteith in the season's third episode. "[Lea] has just been ... a pillar of strength through all of this," Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said on Aug. 1. "She was the first one who said, 'I want to get back to work.'"
