Princes Join Disaster Relief Work Force | Prince Harry, Prince William
As part of the worldwide effort to help those stricken by the Dec. 26 tsunami disaster, Princes William and Harry went to work in a Gloucestershire warehouse on Friday, spending more than five hours helping to prepare boxes of emergency supplies and stretchers for shipment to the devastated areas of Southeast Asia.

William, 22, and Harry, 20, are the first members of the royal family to take an active role in the relief effort, the British Press Association reports. The two sought to participate after privately donating money to the Disaster Emergency Committee on Dec. 28, after having watched news reports of the tsunami on TV.

"We were both seriously shocked," William said during a work break from ripping apart boxes and stacking cots. "We didn't quite know what to expect. Reports were sketchy. We didn't know what the casualty destruction was. As it got further on it got worse and worse and we couldn't believe it."

"It's been far the worst thing I have ever seen," said Harry. "The size is abnormal."

Both royals mentioned that they were moved to tears by the plight of the thousands of children orphaned by the disaster, with Harry saying: "We're not exempt from what everybody else does. We just wanted to be hands on. We didn't want to sit back and just give donations."
