Winner's Circle
Award show season is in full swing, with celebs on both coasts either attending shows, deciding what to wear to future shows or garnering ever-more nominations. At the New York Film Critics Awards dinner at the historic Roosevelt Hotel this week, Hilary Swank talked with us about her nomination for a Golden Globe (for best dramatic film actress for Million Dollar Baby). "It's so exciting, I just feel like the luckiest girl on earth," she said. "I feel so thankful. I'm pinching myself every day. I'm going to wear Calvin Klein. I have a contract with him, and I'm honored to wear him. Hopefully it'll be really pretty, I haven't seen it yet." As for Globe nominee Paul Giamatti (up for best actor in a film comedy for Sideways): "Everybody wants my opinion on wine," he said with a laugh. "I don't know anything about it! It's sad. People are giving me wine and that's fine, it's just drinking a lot of wine that I have no idea about."
Gone to the Dogs
The flashbulbs popped away for a fashion show at Manhattan hotspot Crobar recently, but the objets d'art were not lithe models in the latest designs, but rather, the pooches of the rich and famous. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's Jai Rodriguez and his two Yorkshire terriers sashayed down the catwalk – oops, we mean runway – at Animal Planet Unleashed, which kicked off the AKC/Eukaneuba National Championships, the Oscars of dog shows. Olympic figure skater Oksana Baiul modeled with her Chihuahuas, while Ereka Vetrini from The Apprentice and The Tony Danza Show strutted away with a borrowed white Maltese. A silent auction following the show benefited the American Kennel Club's Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund. Woof.
