Despite reports claiming Kid Rock was removed from the list of performers at President Bush's upcoming inauguration festivities, organizers tell PEOPLE the performer was "never booked" in the first place.

"He was never booked. We're announcing the entertainment lineup tomorrow (Thursday). I don't know where this came from," said Tracey Schmitt, spokeswoman for the Presidential Inauguration Committee, in reaction to reports that the singer had been pulled due to concerns by pro-family groups about his image.

Kid Rock (real name: Robert Ritchie), who turns 34 on Monday, supported President Bush in last year's race. Early reports tagged Rock as a possible performer, along with JoJo and Hilary Duff, at the Jan. 18 youth concert, which will be hosted by Bush's twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. The actual inauguration is Jan. 20.

Several conservative groups became outraged that the Detroit-based singer might be included in the president's festivities. The Campaign for Children and Families sent out e-mails to 2.5 million supporters decrying the appearance.
