SUNDAY, JAN. 16: Sure, we care who will walk away a winner at Golden Globes, but we have some other pressing concerns: Will Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck stroll the red carpet together – or will he duck inside and let her have the limelight? Will Desperate Housewives star and supporting TV actress nominee Nicollette Sheridan, who earned the unfortunate honor of topping Mr. Blackwell's worst-dressed list, make a fashion turnaround and surprise people with a tasteful ensemble? And, one of our most burning questions: Will it be a clash of the red-carpet titans as Star Jones and mother-daughter team Joan and Melissa Rivers duke it out for prime turf for their respective red carpet pre-shows (Jones on E! and the Rivers gals on the TV Guide Channel)? All those questions and more will be answered at the 62nd annual Golden Globes, airing live on NBC at 8 p.m. ET from the Beverly Hilton. As for the awards – which are decided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – expect triple nominee Jamie Foxx or Hilary Swank to travel to the winner's podium, and don't be surprised to see one of the Desperate Housewives claiming her very own Globe.
TUESDAY, JAN. 18: You think you can sing? America will be the judge of that, when aspiring Fantasias, Kellys and Rubens try to vocalize their way to stardom with the two-hour premiere of the fourth season of American Idol. A few things have changed this time around: While last season boasted a battle of the divas, half of the semifinalist spots are promised to the guys. Another tweak: The age cut-off for contestants is now 28, two years older than previous seasons. And celebrity judges, including LL Cool J, KISS member Gene Simmons and Brandy, will join Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell for the sometimes painful audition process rather than just giving their input during the studio episodes.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 20: The movie industry's biggest bigwigs will be donning their parkas and Uggs and heading to Park City, Utah, for the Sundance Film Festival searching for the Next Big Film. Among the movies to be screened already creating buzz: the dramedy The Upside of Anger, costarring Kevin Costner and Joan Allen and the Kevin Bacon-directed drama Loverboy, for which the actor will receive the Ray-Ban Visionary Award. The festival runs through Jan. 30.
Meanwhile, Washington, D.C. is abuzz with the festivities for the presidential inauguration, which takes place on Capitol Hill at noon, followed by an inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Ave. to the White House. President George W. Bush and his family will certainly need their energy for the night of inaugural parties: They're expected to make the rounds to no less than 10 balls that evening. The official inauguration comes after two days of opening ceremonies, including the America's Future Rocks Today concert, where Kid Rock won't be appearing but Hilary Duff and Ruben Studdard will.
THURSDAY, JAN. 20: Will the Graduates learn a tough lesson from the School of Hard Knocks? Find out as the third season of The Apprentice introduces 18 new contenders, half with formal educations (the Book Smarts team, dubbed the Magna team) and the other half with limited educations but strong business credentials (the Street Smarts team, known as the Networth team). Among those competing for a job with Donald Trump: Magna team members Erin, 26, a lawyer from Philadelphia and Alex, 29, a prosecutor from Seattle. On the Networth team: Angie, 41, a gym franchise owner from Lake Balboa, Calif., and Craig, 37, a shoeshine business owner. The show's 90-minute premiere (airing on NBC at 8:30 p.m.) will have the candidates trying to operate a Burger King franchise and launching a new hamburger, all the while hoping to avoid the boardroom and The Donald's dreaded catchphrase.
