Calling the allegation "utterly preposterous," attorney Walter Phillips said he would not discuss the specifics of the investigation but insists that the woman's claim amounts to, at the most, "inappropriate touching."
Phillips said that the accuser, who lives in Canada, knows Cosby and the alleged incident in question happened about a year ago.
"The charges are categorically false," added Cosby's publicist, David Brokaw, speaking to Philadelphia TV station WCAU, which broke the story Thursday.
The station described the woman as a former employee of Cosby's alma mater, Temple University. Her age was not disclosed, but the station described her as "young" and reported that Cosby allegedly gave her pills that made her feel dizzy.
Police in Cheltenham Township, Pa., a Philly suburb where Cosby, 67, has a home, declined comment. No charges have been brought against Cosby.
Cosby postponed a town hall meeting in Cleveland on Thursday and has postponed three upcoming shows in Florida, Brokaw tells AP. He would not say whether the postponements have anything to do with the recent allegation.
