Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and the rest of the Oscar shoo-ins will set their alarm clocks for the Academy Award nominations early Tuesday morning. PEOPLE takes a look at the big race, plus other events to watch for in the coming week:
MONDAY, JAN. 24: It's the moment of truth: when actors either have a good sense of humor about themselves or hang their heads in shame when the nominations are announced for the Razzie Awards, which celebrate the worst movies of the year. Brad Pitt (for Troy), Hugh Jackman (Van Helsing) and Colin Farrell (Alexander) are all on the preliminary ballot as worst actor contenders. And Alexander may just lead the pack in nominations, including worst director (Oliver Stone), worst screenplay and worst picture. The Razzies will be presented on Feb. 26, the day before the Academy Awards nominations are announced. In this instance, it's really not an honor just to be nominated.
TUESDAY, JAN. 25: Okay, so no one will be shocked when Golden Globe winners Leonardo DiCaprio (The Aviator), Jamie Foxx (Ray), Hilary Swank (Million Dollar Baby) and Annette Bening (Being Julia) are picked as nominees for the 77th annual Academy Awards. But there still could be plenty of surprises in store when Best Actor Oscar winner Adrien Brody announces the nominations bright and early (5:30 a.m. PT) in Beverly Hills. Other not-so-bold predictions? Golden Globe-winning comedy Sideways is expected to get a Best Picture nod and Clint Eastwood's day will be made with a Best Director nomination for Million Dollar Baby. The Academy Awards will be televised live on ABC from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre on Feb. 27.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 26: It's time for another round of love and marriage … and cameras: Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are back with the premiere of the third season of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Though the couple has emphatically denied any strain in their marriage, people will surely be looking for any sign of trouble for the photogenic pair. This time around, the show will spotlight them housebreaking their Maltese-poodle puppy, Daisy, and celebrating their wedding anniversary, while Simpson gets into character for her role as Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard movie.
In fact, it's a Simpson sister double-feature as Jessica's younger sib, Ashlee, kicks off the second season of her reality show on the same night, at 10:30 p.m. ET. This time out, Ashlee experiences the horror of her mortifying Saturday Night Live lip-synching snafu (you just can't get tired of watching that awkward jig) and preps for her first headlining concert tour, which launches Feb. 16 in Anahem, Calif.
And if that's enough reality for you, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie will try working for a living on the third season of The Simple Life 3: Interns, which premieres at 9 p.m. ET on FOX. Gone is their customized trailer and pick-up truck: For this jaunt, Paris and Nicole travel across the country by Greyhound bus to work as interns at various jobs. The pals haven't been welcome everywhere: They missed their chance to educate the young minds of America when parents in Buena Vista Township, N.J., protested the duo subbing as guest grade-school schoolteachers – but they will get to try their hand at being flight attendants and weather girls.
