Lopez Does Double Duty for Rebirth
SCHEDULED: The March 1 release of Jennifer Lopez's new album, Rebirth – her follow-up to 2002's This Is Me ... Then – will be a double hitter, simultaneously coming out as a standard audio CD and a DualDisc (with a DVD on the flip side), Billboard reports. On the DVD will be interviews, in-studio footage and the video for her first single "Get Right," which is MTV's No. 1 clip this week. Lopez's primetime MTV special is set for Feb. 14, while the first week of March should see her on Today and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Rebirth" includes collaborations with rappers Fat Joe and Fabolous.
FILLED: Judge Rodney S. Melville abruptly ended the first phase of jury selection in Michael Jackson's child-molestation trial on Tuesday – a day ahead of schedule – after quickly finding a pool of about 250 people willing to serve on the case. "I think we have enough," Melville told the attorneys and Jackson before dismissing them shortly before noon and adjourning court until next Monday, when prosecutors and Jackson's attorneys will begin questioning the would-be jurors more closely.
ENGAGED: Access Hollywood coanchor Nancy O'Dell, 38, recently said yes to marrying business executive Keith Zubchevich, 35, PEOPLE reports in its new issue. This will be the second marriage for both. The couple, who have dated for nine months, have not yet set a wedding date.
VISITED: Barbara Walters, 73, reported on The View Tuesday that when she visited her friend Martha Stewart, 63, at the Alderson federal prison in West Virginia last weekend, "she looked very well – she has lost 20 lbs. and is in very good spirits." Walters also said that the domestic diva, who will be released next month before serving five months of house arrest as part of her sentence for obstructing justice, "teaches yoga (and) said she misses absolutely nothing material." In addition, "She said she loves scrubbing the floors in the bathroom," Walters added.
NOMINATED: Usher picked up a leading five nominations Tuesday for the Soul Train Music Awards, in such categories as best male R&B-soul album for Confessions, and best male R&B-soul single for "Confessions Part II." "My Boo," his duet with Alicia Keys (whose The Diary of Alicia Keys is also up for best R&B-soul album by a female), also earned him and the soul diva a nomination. Sexy newcomer Ciara garnered four nominations, including best female R&B-soul album and best R&B-soul or rap by a new artist. The awards will be presented Feb. 28.
SELECTED: Former President Bill Clinton was picked by United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on Tuesday to be Annan's special envoy to countries affected by the Dec. 26 tsunami in Southeast Asia, reports The New York Times. In a statement, Clinton said he looks forward to assuming the post once he returns from a visit to the devastated area with the first President Bush later this month.
BOOKED: Wrestling star Lex Luger (real name: Lawrence Pfohl), 46, has been arrested for DUI and other charges after being spotted by a Cobb County, Ga., police officer when he stopped on the side of Interstate 575 on Monday morning, slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle, reports the Associated Press. Pfohl woke up and drove away but the Cobb County officer called authorities in neighboring Cherokee County for assistance, said Nicole Ebbeskotte of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
ARRAIGNED: Lynn Anderson, 57, has pleaded not guilty to shoplifting a Harry Potter DVD from a Taos. N.M., supermarket and punching a police officer last month, AP reports. Anderson's lawyer entered the pleas on behalf of the country singer. Taos County Magistrate Betty Martinez allowed Anderson to seek medical treatment out of state after the pleas were entered. Brigitte Ursula Lotze, Anderson's lawyer, said the singer deserves the prayers of Taos residents.
SPOTTED: Disappointing news from Pennsylvania. Wednesday being Groundhog Day, furry little Punxsutawney Phil climbed out of his hole in the morning – and saw his shadow. According to legend, this means the rest of us are still stuck with six more weeks of winter. As the crowd of humans outside Phil's hole erupted into a chorus of boos, the nation's weathermen advised not to blame the messenger.
