Brad Pitt's Adopted Family
Daryl Hannah and Brad Pitt
So what was Brad Pitt doing down in South Central L.A. this week? The Ocean's Twelve star was scoping out a program in which BP Solar donates a solar-power system to a low-income family whenever a celebrity buys one for his or her own house. "It's an attempt to connect people from different corners of a community around the idea of clean, free energy from the sun," said Ed Norton, Pitt's costar in 1999's Fight Club, who was instrumental in the program's inception and has been involved since it began a year ago. He even remains friendly with the family he sponsored. "We call each other and talk about our solar meters," he said. Other participants at the event included Daryl Hannah, Pierce Brosnan and Danny DeVito – and along with Pitt, Norton's ex-girlfriend Salma Hayek came to check out the program. Pitt, who indicated that he wants to be next to get involved, posed for photos with the family that will receive the system thanks to his participation.
Red Carpet Chatter
We caught up with a few stars as they made their way into the Shrine Auditorium for the SAG Awards: Desperate Housewives costar Brenda Strong, who plays Mary Alice on the lauded show, tells us: "I'm really excited because my older sister is turning 50, so my sisters and I are going to take a trip to Paris. I've never been to Paris, and I'm so excited." ... Mary Lynn Rajskub of 24 has had a few strange fan reactions: "I just bought a house and the woman who sold it to me was like, 'Oh, you're creepy Chloe! I told all my friends that creepy Chloe bought our house!' " ... Now that Steve Buscemi has finished up his stint on The Sopranos, what's next? "John Turturro wrote and directed a movie called Romance and Cigarettes that James Gandolfini is in as well, and I directed a film called Lonesome Jim that was just at Sundance that stars Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler." ... And John Spencer of The West Wing says he's ready for love – onscreen, that is. "I'd love to give (my character) Leo a date! Don't you think Leo deserves a date? Or maybe it's the private sector – maybe once I'm back in the private sector I'll start dating again."
