WEEK IN REVIEW: Nicole Richie Gets Engaged
ROYAL ROMANCE: Prince Charles and his longtime love Camilla Parker Bowles have announced their intention to wed in April. The couple's ongoing romance, even during Charles's marriage to Princess Diana, has been no secret. In a television interview, Princess Diana once famously complained, "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded." Public opinion toward Charles's onetime mistress was once quite low, but it has softened, and polls show most of Britons are OK with the union. The couple made their first public appearance Thursday night during which Parker Bowles showed off her magnificent square-cut diamond ring that is a royal family heirloom. The simple wedding ceremony is scheduled for April 8.
BRIT'S KNEE: Britney Spears filed a lawsuit against eight insurance companies Feb. 4, alleging that they failed to reimburse the pop princess after a knee injury sidelined her Onyx Hotel Tour last summer. Spears is seeking $9.8 million to defray the costs of the canceled shows, as well as to pay for the original $1.3 million policy she had purchased to protect against such accidents. The companies named in the lawsuit rejected the claim, saying that Spears failed to disclose a prior injury to her knee that would have altered the policy.
KOURNIKOVA CREEP: A homeless man appeared in court this week after he was charged with stalking and burglary following his arrest for loitering in the pool area of home near sultry tennis star Anna Kournikova's Miami Beach mansion. William Lepeska, 40, who reportedly has the name "Anna" tattooed on one arm, swam naked across Biscayne Bay toward what he believed was Kournikova's $5 million waterfront home. He actually ended up at a house three doors down, where he was arrested. On Friday a judge upped Lepeska's bail to $250,000, citing his violent history and concern about his mental state. Lepeska spent almost five years in prison for stabbing a sleeping college student in Milwaukee.
DESPERATE RUMORS: After rampant speculation and rumormongering that Desperate Housewives actress Marcia Cross is a lesbian, the redheaded beauty appeared on The View Wednesday where she denied the gossip and said she had no idea how it started. "I assume this is what comes of being 42 and single," said Cross who also starred in the '90s TV drama Melrose Place. The View's most boisterous co-host, Joy Behar, got right to the point asking, "So you're not gay?" to which Cross answered: "I'm not."
