Petra Nemcova Recalls Tsunami Nightmare
MOURNED: Czech supermodel and tsunami survivor Petra Nemcova, 25, has learned that the body of her boyfriend, Simon Atlee, 33, has been recovered in Thailand and identified by forensic experts, say reports. His remains will be flown back to England for burial. Nemcova learned the news Saturday, after being informed by her sister, Jodi Hansad, who told New York's Daily News: "We're very relieved that he's been found, and we're grateful for all the hard work that people have done to help find him." Meanwhile, in an interview with Primetime Live airing Wednesday at 10 p.m., Nemcova tells Diane Sawyer that she felt her pelvis breaking "many times" during the Dec. 26 disaster. "I was just screaming from the top of my lungs," she said, according to the New York Post. "Such a power of the water. My left hip, it was pushing it and breaking it and breaking it and breaking it."
DIAGNOSED: Former President Bill Clinton will undergo a low-risk medical procedure on Thursday to remove fluid and scar tissue from his chest, his office says. The procedure, to take place at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, comes six months after he underwent quadruple bypass surgery Clinton, 58, will remain hospitalized for three to 10 days and is expected to make a "full functional recovery," doctors said.
UNVEILED: The new cover of the latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was unveiled on Tuesday morning's Today show. The drawing shows the 16-year-old wizard, looking more mature than before, standing with Dumbledore over a bowl that appears to be magical – if the green light emanating from it is any indication. The background of the cover is purple. The sixth installment in J.K. Rowling's series is due in stores July 16. As before, the cover art was by Mary GrandPre, who did the five previous covers. She said on Today that she looks for facial expressions in her own face before painting them on to Harry's.
LIFTED: Britain's Registrar General Len Cook dismissed 11 objections to the
April 8 marriage of Prince Charles and his longtime lover Camilla Parker Bowles, reports Reuters. The chief objection to the ceremony’s taking place in
Windsor town hall was that the law did not allow the heir to the throne to marry in a civil ceremony. "I am satisfied that none of these objections should obstruct the issue of a (marriage) certificate," said Cook on Tuesday.
ARRESTED: Days of Our Lives Jason Cook was arrested on charges of public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia after he allegedly became argumentative with Des Moines International Airport officials who found a pipe with marijuana debris in his luggage on Monday, the Associated Press reports. "Jason appeared to be intoxicated, showing signs as bloodshot watery eyes, argumentative behavior, inability to follow instructions and smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage," a police report said. He was in Des Moines over the weekend for the 31st annual Variety Club telethon, which raised $3.5 million for children's charities.
FINED: Ja Rule, 29, pleaded guilty to assault and was fined more than $1,200 by a Canadian court in Toronto for delivering "one punch to the eye" of a nightclub patron last year, reports Reuters. The rapper (real name: Jeffrey Atkins), faced a more serious charge of assault causing bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty to that charge. "He felt sorry for what he had done," his lawyer Steven Skurka said. "The judge found the conduct of the patrons at the club unacceptable and called it disgraceful."
DIED: 1940s actress Teresa Wright, 86, died of a heart attack in a Connecticut hospital Sunday, her daughter tells The New York Times. Wright's movies included The Little Foxes, The Best Years of Our Lives, The Pride of the Yankees (as the wife of Lou Gehrig, played by Gary Cooper) and Mrs. Miniver (for which she won a Supporting Actress Oscar) ... Film producer Debra Hill, 54, who helped create the Halloween horror series, died of cancer in Los Angeles Monday, reports AP. Her other movies included Fisher King, with Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges.
