The Federal Communications Commission has thrown in the towel regarding complaints about the steamy Monday Night Football commercial starring Nicollette Sheridan and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens.

Regulators for the government agency have decided that the Desperate Housewives star's exposed bare back in the controversial ad did not violate decency standards, reports Reuters.

The commercial, in which Sheridan approaches Owens in the locker room and drops her towel (partially exposing her back), aired only once, on Nov. 15, 2004, before the game between the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

"We conclude that the material in question is not patently offensive, and thus, not indecent," the FCC decision said. "In particular, the Monday Night Football segment, although sexually suggestive, is not graphic or explicit."

A representative for Disney-owned ABC, which airs Monday Night Football and Desperate Housewives, was not available for comment.

Immediately following the original airing of the spot, FCC Chairman Michael Powell called the ad "very disappointing" and ABC apologized for it.
