He may not be as famous as Nick Lachey, but fellow former 98 Degrees member Justin Jeffre is making a run to become Cincinnati's next mayor, citing his love for his hometown and desire to improve it as his motivation.

"I am serious about this, and I intend to win," says Jeffre, 32, the Associated Press reports. "We need to sell this city back to the people of this city. We've forgotten how great this city can be."

A key election issue for him is the rebuilding of a strong downtown, tied to its arts and entertainment. Current Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken, a Democrat, has said he won't seek re-election. Jeffre has no political affiliation and plans to run as an independent, says his spokeswoman, Andrea Leslie.

Jeffre also wants VH1 to follow his campaign for a reality TV series. VH1 officials have said no decision has been made on his proposal.

The primary election is set for Sept. 13, and the final vote is Nov. 8.
