KILLED: Wednesday night's episode of ABC's Lost claimed the life of one of its main characters, Boone, played by Ian Somerhalder, who calls the plot turn "pretty devastating." Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Somerhalder, 26, says that before he knew that his character would fatally fall out of a tree while investigating a small plane, he was "looking for a house in Hawaii." But, with Boone only possibly coming back to the show in flashbacks, the actor decided to stay closer to Hollywood. "Now I'm looking for a house in Venice Beach," he says.
DIED: Frank Conroy, 69, who directed the University of Iowa's celebrated Writers' Workshop for nearly two decades and whose memoir Stop-Time chronicled his troubled, nomadic childhood growing up in a Florida shack, died Wednesday at his home in Iowa City. The cause was colon cancer, said James Alan McPherson, acting co-director of the workshop, which Conroy ran beginning in 1987, turning it into the nation's most prestigious creative writing program.
FORECAST: The weather outlook for Saturday's wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles is not friendly, with expectations of Arctic winds, temperatures barely above freezing and rain or even snow, say reports. Also revealed, reports the Scotsman newspaper, is that a secret plan to pad the crowds with "friendly" faces, culled from those who work for Charles's various charities and institutions, has been shelved. Says the paper: "The 'friendly crowd' had been invited after fears that fans of Diana, Princess of Wales, or opponents of the monarchy may try to disrupt the day."
