At the event, Combs read an excerpt from Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise" and spoke about his appreciation for the efforts of former slaves – like the Underground Railroad founder Harriet Tubman – who helped to fight against slavery. "Now I can live the American dream," he said.
Though they're separated, that isn't stopping Shannon Elizabeth and husband Joe Reitman from attending the same events. Recently, the two arrived separately at the 2nd Annual L.A. Lakers Poker Party in Santa Monica. Elizabeth, who was wearing her wedding ring, hung out with friends while Reitman attended the celebrity-pro poker tournament benefiting the L.A. Lakers Youth Foundation with poker star Annie Duke (who was once Ben Affleck's card coach).
"I'm great," Elizabeth told us about living the single life. "I'm traveling, I'm having fun. Everything's good." The actress, who just returned from Japan for a UNICEF concert, is planning a trip to Mexico for a friend's wedding (ironically, that's where she and Reitman tied the knot in 2002) and she'll head to Las Vegas for the 10th anniversary party for the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
While her UPN show Cuts is on hiatus, Elizabeth is busy looking at film scripts. "I want to make sure that I keep doing movies, because I don't want to be just TV," the American Pie star told us. "I want to be able to go back and forth, because they're both so much fun. I don't want to get stuck in one." Meanwhile, her estranged actor husband (he'll appear in the Salma Hayek-Penelope Cruz movie Bandidas, due out next year) is trying his hand at TV. He's coproducing an upcoming series for the Game Show Network, which will star his pal Duke.
