Both actor-comedian George Lopez and his wife, Ann, "are resting comfortably in their Los Angeles home and are both expected to make a full recovery" after Ann gave her husband one of her kidneys during a transplant operation last week, according to a statement from his publicist.
The surgery took place at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles and was required due to a genetic condition that caused his kidneys to deteriorate, said the statement. No further details were provided.
Filming on his TV show, ABC's George Lopez, has wrapped for the season, the Associated Press reports. Lopez, 44, also completed work on The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl, due to open June 10.
Late last month Lopez appeared as a witness in the Michael Jackson trial, testifying that the accuser's father in the case had hit him up for money. He also made the courtroom laugh a few times, including when he was asked if he had ever heard of the largely Hispanic L.A. suburban of El Monte. He said every Hispanic had heard of El Monte.
Lopez and his wife, a writer whose credits include her husband's show, have been married since 1993 and have one child, a daughter.
