McCready's Ex Charged with Murder Attempt
William McKnight was also charged with aggravated burglary in the incident early Sunday, according to the Associated Press, which quotes broadcast reports as saying McCready was treated and released at a hospital following the attack.
McKnight was being held Monday in lieu of $130,000 bond.
Last Friday, McCready, 29, was arrested and charged with drunken driving after being stopped for speeding at about 3 a.m. in a Nashville suburb, Cpl. Candace Mowry told AP. Mowry said the officer smelled alcohol in the vehicle and McCready performed poorly on a field sobriety test. The singer refused to take a breath alcohol test.
McCready, who was freed on $3,500 bail, later denied the charges, although she did acknowledge speeding. "We all make mistakes. We're human," she said.
McCready (whose hits include "A Girl's Gotta Do What a Girl's Gotta Do") is already on three years' supervised probation after pleading guilty to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin at a pharmacy in February 2004 by using the name of a friend on the prescription.
