Everybody Loves Raymond: Funny Fade-Out | Everybody Loves Raymond
It ended as might be expected: With Marie barging into Ray and Debra's kitchen to take over breakfast as the rest of the family follows in and starts bickering. And then, after nine seasons of great writing and great ratings, Everybody Loves Raymond subtly faded out on Monday night.

Not that there wasn't drama. Ray (Ray Romano) discovers he needs to have his adenoids removed, prompting his father Frank (Peter Boyle) to speculate that his son's infected mouth tissue is located in the same area as "the rest of the 'oids."

Only then, things turned not so funny. While mother Marie (Doris Roberts) is in the hospital's ladies room, Ray has trouble waking up from the anesthesia, causing wife Debra (Patricia Heaton) to break down and brother Robert (Brad Garrett) to get vociferous with the medical staff – for all of about 30 seconds, until a doctor announces Ray is fine.

But the point was made: Everybody loves Raymond, with those immediately involved, including Robert's wife Amy (Monica Horan), vowing not to tell Ray and Marie of Ray's scrape with death.

Naturally, they find out anyway – Frank tells Marie who tells Raymond – and the situation is played to great comic and emotional heights.

"For 30 seconds, you all thought I might be dead," says a shocked Raymond, before a sly smile overtakes him and he asks, "What did everybody do?"

A better question might be, Now what will everybody else do – without the Barone family to deliver the laughs every week?
