Mullally, 46, who plays the freewheeling Karen Walker on the prime-time sitcom, would base her one-hour show from Los Angeles.
"Megan is a fantastic performer. A great actor and a great communicator, as all of her fans know," said Jeff Zucker, president of NBC Universal Television Group, in a statement. "Those skills will make her a great new addition to the daytime playing field. And I could not be more excited to have Megan still on the team."
In her own statement, Mullally, who has an extensive stage background, said: "I'm hosting a what? Oh, okay. Well, if I am, I want it to be different and I want the viewers to play an active role and actually get something out of watching it. I think it will be fun. Jeff Zucker is going to play drums in the band."
Will & Grace was recently renewed for the 2005-2006 season, though there were reports that, amid complaints that the show was losing some of its comic luster, new contracts for its stars may not have been as lucrative as they were in seasons past. Besides Mullally, the Thursday night program features Eric McCormack, Debra Messing and Sean Hayes.
Besides her TV job, Mullally is also the lead singer and founder of the band Supreme Music Program. The band, which has released two CDs, has recently performed at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Seattle Symphony and Chicago's Goodman Theater, according to a press release.
