Paris: The Ideal Daughter-in-Law?
06/15/2005 AT 06:00 AM EDT
The Hilton family is certainly happy about daughter Paris's engagement to Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis, but how does her future father-in-law feel about the hotel heiress joining the family? We just had to ask. "I have met her. She is a very pretty girl," Gregoris Kasidokostas (his son goes by his mother's maiden name) tells us. "Whatever she has said about my son, the fact that she wants to start a family, that she loves him, I strongly believe she means them."
Kasidokostas (who's the mayor of the Athens suburb of Vouliagmeni and is divorced from Latsis's mom, Marianna) does have one reservation, though: his son's young age. "The only problem we have is that Paris is 22. It would be better to think about it seriously before he starts a family, because having a family is a very serious matter, especially in Greece," he explains. "Our advice to him is always the same: Whatever you do, you have to be careful and cautious." But, he adds, "(Paris) is absolutely happy. When I see him that happy, that makes me happy too."
Paris – Hilton, that is – will have plenty of time to get to charm her dad-in-law-to-be: The newly betrothed couple will spend time with him in Greece this summer.
Bring on the Bling
Grammy winner Kanye West celebrated his 28th birthday June 8 with plenty of bling at diamond retailer Bulgari's flagship store in Manhattan. (We're sure it's just a coincidence that "Diamonds" is the name of the first single from his new album, Late Registration, on sale Aug. 16.) In a room decorated with the finest ice – including one $12 million necklace flown in just for the occasion – West and his mom, Donda, posed for pictures with music heavyweights Jay-Z, Nas, John Legend, P. Diddy, and comedian Chris Tucker.
Guests signed a gigantic birthday card, and were treated to violin renditions of West's hits "Jesus Walks" and "All Falls Down" performed by String Orchestra NYC. The VIPs also walked away with party favors, including sunglasses, perfume, and make-up bags. This being a hip-hop affair, there was an afterparty, too: West, his mom, Legend, and R&B singer Keyshia Cole stopped by trendy club Lotus at midnight and wound up chilling until 3 a.m.
