has turned designer for a good cause. The fashion-hound actress – who recently returned from France, where she was filming the Sofia Coppola-directed Marie-Antoinette
– put her own touch on a pair of Generra jeans for a celebrity auction benefiting the nonprofit organization Inner-City Arts.
"I drew a little French flag on the butt," Dunst told us at a launch party for the auction at SUR Restaurant & Grill in West Hollywood (you can also bid on customized jeans by Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore
and other celebrities at www.generra.com
. "I loved Les Miserables
as a kid so I put 24601 upside down (on the waist of the jeans) as an inside thing. That's (character) Jean Valjean's prison number."
Dunst – who attended the soiree with a pal, not her are-they-or-aren't-they former beau Jake Gyllenhaal
– fell in love with the City of Lights during her stay. "It was amazing," she says. "Nobody bothers you in Paris. You can walk on the street. Nobody cares." Now that she's back home in Los Angeles, Dunst is seeking out another creative outlet. "I'm actually taking a photography course," she says. "Color, black and white, everything." What does Dunst want to photograph? "We'll see. I?m just going to try it."
Canucks love their Alanis Morissette
– and they've let their native daughter know it. The singer was recently inducted into the Canada Hall of Fame. "I've always been ambivalent about the concept of fame," the singer, who hails from Ottawa, told us at the ceremony in Toronto. "One part of me has been really excited about it, the other part has been mortified and afraid of it almost. So this is an opportunity for me to grow up and take in the acknowledgement."
But perhaps her biggest fan is fiancé Ryan Reynolds.
"He?s just such a supportive creature. I feel so loved by him in a trampoline kind of way," she says. "He?s always very happy for me." The actor is joining Morissette on her tour in support of her new acoustic version of her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill,
which kicked off on June 7 in Toronto. And Morissette credits his being a fellow countryman with the success of their relationship. "We already started off with the shorthand, so I think it's a really great base. I attempted dating many American men. I tried!"
Table for Two
He may not be jumping on couches on Oprah,
but Keanu Reeves
sure isn't hiding his affection for his new girlfriend, actress Lynn Collins.
Recently, the actor took lunch al fresco with his gal pal on the terrace of Manhattan eatery Nello's. "They kissed for about two hours," says owner Nello Balan. "Right on Madison Avenue! People were staring. They seem like like they are very much in love." And maybe getting serious. Just days earlier, the couple shared Sunday night dinner with Reeves's mom at One Little West 12th in the Meatpacking district.
